Cleveland-Cliffs is the largest flat-rolled steel company and the largest iron ore pellet producer in North America. The company is vertically integrated from mining through iron making, steelmaking, rolling, finishing and downstream with hot and cold stamping of steel parts and components.
The Product Manager is responsible for driving commercial performance of specialty plate products, contributing to the sales plan, MRF and bookings. Additionally, the product manager provides sales leadership with pricing recommendations and analysis for strategic planning and special projects. The product manager works closely with technology, operations, planning and commercial sales. They possess technical acumen, an understanding of customer needs and the value selling process. They are comfortable being involved in ad hoc process improvements and high-level strategic projects within the commercial department or cross functionally.
Responsibilities
Conduct pricing analysis daily to respond to inquiries and project opportunities
Utilize cost systems to determine profitability of potential business considering product technicality, cost, mill capacity, and market conditions
Responsible for contractual, spot, and depot pricing by determining the price within parameters provided by sales leadership and specification knowledge gathered from the technical team
Understand pricing complexity of long-term proposals, such as government funded projects, and strategically plan for multi-year opportunities
Provide pricing guidance to Customer Service Account Representatives and Account Managers
Working with account managers, monitor competitor product offering, pricing and availability and make pricing recommendations to sales leadership
Support negotiations and customer development to meet financial targets
Make pricing decisions based on product mix in accordance with the Sales Plan and company priorities while balancing the needs of the customers
Support account managers to handle pricing and value discussions with customers
Promote a performance driven culture and provide strategic direction
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's Degree
Five years plate product or Sales and Marketing experience
Understanding of customer needs, value positioning, and the negotiation process
Understanding of plate specifications and production process flow
Proven ability to make decisions by considering all relevant information in a high pressure, time sensitive environment
Strong team player and effective communicator that works well with team internally and externally across units/divisions/departments
Knowledge of Cleveland Cliffs' and competitor product capability
High functioning analytical and technical skills, including internal reporting systems and MS Office/Excel
Preferred Requirements
Prior Account Manager experience
Breadth of experience across Commercial Sales department
Technical degree or steel operations/technical experience
