JOB SUMMARY





The Staff Accountant I position contributes to the timely completion and analysis of financial results and accounting transactions.  Responsibilities include tracking the Company’s capital projects and maintaining fixed asset schedules as well as supporting accounts receivable functions.  The position requires strong organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills.  Other accounting related tasks will be required as needed.





ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS



  • Track the compilation of project costs included in fixed asset accounts and close out the accounts into identifiable assets once the related projects have been completed


  • Record transactions to ensure proper expense or capitalization in accordance with GAAP and the company’s policy


  • Prepare journal entries to support the timely preparation of financial statements


  • Assist accounts receivable in customer account collections and resolving customer account issues


  • Ensure bank statements are reconciled in a timely manner




OTHER FUNCTIONS



  • Prepare annual property tax returns


  • Assist with financial and tax audits


  • Work with project managers to ensure capital projects are closed on a timely basis


  • Assist with capital asset physical inventories


  • Prepare ad hoc reports and analysis as needed


  • Support a high-volume department by cross training on the regular duties of other accounting staff members

QUALIFICATIONS



  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business


  • Knowledge of JD Edwards/Oracle ERP system


  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite


  • Knowledge of accounting principles, practices and procedures


  • Strong organizational, critical thinking and customer service skills


  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to professional integrity


  • Able to execute on multiple tasks, deadlines and priorities


  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with emphasis on confidentiality, tact and diplomacy




PHYSICAL DEMANDS



  • Primary work activities are within an office environment


  • Limited travel to production facilities in California to assist with audits and complete annual physical inventory checks
