Tax Accountant at Keplr Vision in Bloomington, Illinois

Keplr Vision is currently going through tremendous growth and expanding its Tax Department are are seeking a Tax Specialist in our Bloomington, IL office.  
  

This position reports to the Director of Accounting and is responsible for overseeing the tax matters of Keplr Vision. This includes responsibility for, but not limited to, addressing inquiries from internal partners and external authorities, ensuring compliance with all indirect tax matters, and managing activities of outside tax advisors and preparers of both indirect and income tax filings. Responsibility for building strong relationships with internal customers is also required. Possess a strong customer focus with the ability to meet the needs of the business while ensuring compliance with all company policies and procedures.


 


Duties and Responsibilities:



Monthly Sales and Use Tax:



  • Work with tax preparation provider on externally prepared returns.

  • Review preparation of externally prepared monthly and quarterly returns.

  • Ensure all returns are filed timely and in compliance with state guidelines.

  • Verify that all tax notices and inquiries are resolved timely.

  • Prepare reconciliations of liability and expense accounts.

  • Establish accounts with local and state jurisdictions to ensure compliance.

Tangible Property Taxes:



  • Review annual property tax preparation.

  • Provides accurate fixed asset input data for the returns.

  • Verify that return payments match expected amounts and are done timely.

  • Prepare appropriate accrual schedule to recognize this tax liability monthly.

Business License/Occupational Tax Renewal:

  • Review and prepare annual business license renewals.

  • Review and prepare annual/quarterly occupational tax renewals.

Real Estate Taxes: 

  • Review property real estate tax terms contained in leases.

  • Oversee or prepare as needed year end reconciliations of monthly property tax payments to actual tax statements and landlord schedules to ensure accuracy.

  • Set up accrual schedule as needed for any tax payments not paid on monthly basis.

Corporate Income Taxes:

  • Act as liaison with tax preparation firm partner to provide data requested and other information required in a timely manner.

  • Ensure all tax notices and inquiries are resolved timely.

  • Prepare as needed journal entries to record tax transactions.

  • Reconcile corporate tax liability and expense account.

General:

  • Participate in the accounting cycles and meet stringent deadlines.

  • Implements changes in methods or procedures to improve the efficiency.

  • Proactively ensure controls and processes are maintained, while delivering timely, accurate, and high-quality financial statements.

  • Solve problems while handling multiple assignments.

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Identify and resolve other tax compliance matters that may arise.

  • Manage outside professional firms that support the tax compliance and planning matters. 

Education:     



  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or other business-related field

  • Masters degree in Tax or CPA Certification Preferred

Experience:   



  • Tax or accounting, experience in medium to large complex companies.

  • Experienced in real estate, personal property, and sales and use tax matters with familiarity with corporate federal and state income tax return preparation.

  • Ability to manage accounting firms hired to assist the company in tax compliance and preparation matters.

  • The candidate should be comfortable dealing with complex legal entity structures.

  • Solid understanding of indirect tax matters and demonstrate competency in US GAAP, current tax regulations and internal controls.

  • Experience working in a divisional/operational as well as corporate environment is highly desirable. 

  • Experience with NetSuite ERP ledger systems is preferred.

  • Experience with Blackline software is preferred.
