As a Senior Staff Process Engineer in our environmental sciences and engineering practice in Chicago or Oak Brook, Illinois,you will apply your academic knowledge and practical experience to real-world situations related to process engineering, contaminated site assessment & remediation, groundwater management, water treatment, and landfill leachate treatment for a diverse national private and public sector client base, while also learning and expanding the business skills needed for a successful consulting career.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


Is this the right position to help you achieve your professional goals? Some of the key responsibilities for the position may include:



  • Process engineering, including sizing treatment equipment and routing water and wastewater pipes;

  • Wastewater, groundwater, stormwater, and/or leachate treatment equipment design;

  • Wastewater treatment cost estimation, design calculations, and implementation;



  • Understand and visualize overall engineering concepts and translate to design drawing of constructionandmaterialspecifications;

  • Develop process and instrumentation drawings using AutoCAD;

  • Maintain effective communication with Project Engineers and assist the project teams by providing the needed information forconstruction;



  • Preparation of technical reports, letters, memoranda, plans, specifications, and proposals; and

  • Fieldwork such as wastewater and stormwater flow monitoring, sampling, and operations and maintenance contractor oversight.

Here are some other things you should know about this position:




  • Training: This position requires OSHA health and safety, first aid, and CPR training and medical monitoring, paid for by the firm. We also offer professional development opportunities including in-house seminars, webinars, and mentoring, that allow our professionals to build the technical and business skills necessary to become successful consultants.


  • Fieldwork: Up to 20%


  • Overnight travel: Up to 10%

EDUCATION AND LICENSURE



  • Bachelor's degree in chemical, civil, environmental, or mechanical engineering, or related field. (required)

  • Advanced degree in engineering or related field. (preferred)

  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification, if applicable. (preferred)

  • AutoCAD certifications, if applicable. (valuable)


SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS



  • At least 2 years of related experience, including treatment and pumping equipment sizing, pipe routing, and designing, or equivalent combination of education and experience.(required)

  • Knowledge of mechanical and civil engineering design concepts including Plan Set organization, drawing scales, survey coordinate systems, and drawing version control. (required)

  • Understanding of Microsoft Office applications, including Windows, Outlook, Word, and Excel. (required)

  • Knowledge of environmental treatment technologies for remediation and wastewater systems. (preferred)

  • Experience with conducting flow studies and evaluating the results of laboratory studies. (preferred)

  • Excellent writing and communication skills. (required)

  • Valid U.S. driver's license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
