Purpose:


MTD is looking for a customer-oriented field service engineer to support autonomous and semi-autonomous outdoor power equipment across the United States.The ideal candidate will apply their technical knowledge and interpersonal skills to rapidly address customer issues and maximize product uptime.


Essential Duties:



  • Collaborate with a cross functional team of engineers and service professionals supporting advanced outdoor power equipment to maximize customer satisfaction.

  • Act as a subject matter expert and resource for Sales and Service teams; serve as bridge between core Engineering team and customers.

  • Track field service incidents and drive towards resolution; investigate returned components and coordinate root cause analysis.

  • Work closely with Service team to troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve product problems; report findings to Engineering and Product Quality teams.

  • Use data analysis tools to understand product performance and proactively identify problems.

  • Manage deployments of new software releases.

  • Document and improve best practices for product troubleshooting, including enhancements to troubleshooting tools and processes.

  • Cultivate and develop positive working relationships with customers and MTD personnel.


Specialized Knowledge/Skills:



  • 2+ years' experience diagnosing and repairing electrical and/or electromechanical equipment, including standard electrical test equipment such as volt/ohm meters, oscilloscopes, and proprietary electronic and software test tools.

  • Experience writing scripts for data conditioning and analysis using MATLAB, Python, R, or related languages.

  • Strong time management and organization skills and ability to juggle multiple responsibilities.

  • Appetite for continuous learning about electronics, sensors, computers, and software; experience with Linux operating system is a plus.

  • A passion for tackling challenging problems and driving towards resolution.

  • Drive to operate with efficiency and sense of urgency.


Experience/Educational Requirements:



  • B.S. or higher in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering, or another technology-related field, or equivalent work experience.

  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally (both in-person and via telephone) and in writing.

  • Experience interfacing with both internal team members and external customers as part of a solution-based service process; hard working with minimal oversight.

  • Strong desire to work cross-functionally and manage deadline pressure, ambiguity, and change as needed.

  • Experience with data analysis and statistical tools including Excel, Matlab, Minitab, and/or SPSS.

  • Willingness to learn new tools needed to support a product running embedded Linux.


Work Environment:



  • Willing to work on outdoor power equipment in outdoor environment when needed.

  • Able to lift (up to 40lb), reach, bend otherwise work on and around outdoor power equipment such as lawn tractors, snow throwers and handheld power tools.


Travel



  • Domestic travel to customer sites, up to 25%.
