Babcock and Wilcox Construction Co., LLC is seeking a Piping Testing Field Engineer for a jobsite in Monaca, PA. This position will report to a manager from Great Arrow Builders LLC (GAB). GAB is a consolidated joint association formed to support direct hire construction work for the Pennsylvania Chemicals Project (Petrochemical Facility).
Role Overview:
Assists construction superintendents in planning and assembling of work packages using the proper construction methods and procedures. Coordinates and resolves engineering or construction problems with superintendents as required ensuring the work packages are clearly understandable.
Establishes procedures on testing of piping systems. Responsible for the development of pneumatic and hydro-test packages and responsible for verifying and witnessing acceptance of tests.
Performs inspections of all piping work in progress on a continuing basis, witnesses tests and completes final P&ID check prior to turnover. Develops punch lists and monitors completion of punch items. Assists in securing the necessary client acceptance documentation for record. Prepares and has full responsibility for managing piping QC records to ensure that they are fully completed and properly submitted in a timely manner to Document Control.
Actively participates in the People Based Quality (PBQ) and the Build it clean program.
Completes required training pertaining to Standard Work Process Procedures, Project Specifications and Inspection and Test Plans.
Interprets design engineering drawings and prepares construction work packages for the use of superintendents as required, including: but not limited to:
Verify pipe configuration, valve lineup, test blinds, vent and drain locations are in accordance with the test package.
Identify temporary support locations (if necessary) to support pipe for pressure test.
Field sketches of revisions and additions and preparing "as built" drawings.
Permanent plant materials and equipment.
Reviews design drawings, related vendor drawings and installation instructions and studies interference problems.
Prepares or directs preparation of field material purchase requisitions, including estimating the quantities and material takeoffs of the field purchases of materials. Tracks commodities on quantity tracking systems or other computer database programs as required.
Prepares work orders and back charge notices.
Reviews the construction progress of project controls documents.
Prepares cost estimates and reviews project design and engineering bills of materials to ensure their completeness.
Maintains records of costs and quantity information, evaluates data and prepares applicable reports as requested by project management utilizing established, standardized automation tools.
Administers change notices and amendments.
Monitors installation of materials and equipment to assure conformance with drawings, specifications, and quality standards.
Provides input to constructability and lessons learned.
Provides technical assistance to the Piping Superintendents and Supervisors. Must be familiar with international piping codes and standards (e.g. - Australian Codes and Standards, ASME B31.3 and applicable ASME and ASTM standards)
Provides liaison with the design engineering group. This includes preparing and dispositioning Requests for Information (RFI) and Field Change Documents (FCD.)
Executes field take offs from IFC drawings and provides input for quantity tracking. Verifies installed quantities and reports weekly installed quantities to Project Controls.
Coordinates with the design office to establish permanent materials to be ordered by the field, establishes cut off dates for Jobsite material requisitioning and issues field piping material requisitions as required.
Assists the Subcontract Administrator and Project Field Engineer in the quality control and final check out of Subcontractor piping related work. Assists in checking invoices of Subcontractors or vendors for piping related items or materials.
Responsible for As-Built drawings.
Basic Qualifications:
Competent in reading and writing in English
Experience in oil/ gas/ refinery/ petrochemical modules
Knowledge of Microsoft suite of software.
Advanced computer skills to utilize computer driven work tools and processes
2 years' experience in field engineering
Degree in Construction/Engineering related field preferred
Must be able to perform field inspections, climb ladders, and scaffolding, work on elevated platforms, on uneven surfaces and in confined spaces.
Additional Information:
Work includes field inspections and the physical ability to conduct field inspections which require the following activities: extensive walking in and around a construction site, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, working on elevated platforms, working on uneven surfaces and working in small or confined spaces. Some lifting may be required. Must have the ability to walk into and out of the project (enter/egress). Must be able to use appropriate standard issued Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) required for each assigned task (i.e. harness, life vest, lift buckets, etc.).
This position is full time, contracted (~4-6 month assignment), hourly position that operates in the field on jobsite
Must be willing to park offsite and get transported into the jobsite
