We have an immediate opening for an Emergency Response Technician. The Emergency Response Technician (ERT) is a non-exempt, hourly position at Davenport Works that responds to emergency situations such as fires, medical emergencies, Haz-Mat incidents, and rescues. The position performs the following job duties:

• Checks fire and rescue trucks, Haz-Mat and oil spill trailers for proper operation. Inventories all firefighting equipment, rescue or Haz-Mat, required on these units.
• Inspects, tests and repairs high and low pressure cardox, steam, wet, dry and anti-freeze sprinkler systems, fire alarm system, oxygen masks, hoses, fire hydrants and water mains, Halon systems, airline respirators and escape paks, fire extinguishers
• Inspects for and directs removal of fire hazards.
• Performs and directs hazardous material spill control and clean-up.
• Resets couplings, cleans, repairs and hydrostatically tests fire hoses and nozzles.
• Performs high angle and confined space rescues. Provides first responder medical aid.
• Fights and directs the fighting of fires. Conducts fire drills and fire training.
• Fills out equipment inspection records, fire reports, welding & burning permits, confined space permits, fire protection tags and spill reports.
• Inspects welding job areas and issues welding and burning permits as necessary. Stands by on hazardous welding and burning jobs.
• Uses explosimeter and oxygen meter to test for potential hazardous atmosphere.
• Renders portion of cardox system inoperable for safety of maintenance personnel and re-activates system when maintenance work is complete using prints and diagrams of system layouts.
• Prepares written citations identifying and reporting fire hazards.

Arconic Davenport Works is a 24 x 7 operation requiring employees to work alternative work schedules that include off shift and weekends. This position works 12-hour shifts from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 6:00 am. Completing a 700 hour probationary period is a requirement.
I-LC1 Basic Qualifications

• High School Diploma / GED
• Must be able to perform essential functions of the job.
• Demonstrate the knowledge of, and ability to perform the objectives specified in the NFPA 1001 for Fire Fighter I Level, and work under minimum supervision.
• Minimum of 3 years on a Fire Department, Military Fire Service, Ambulance or Rescue Service.
• Iowa Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification is required.
• This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
• Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Hazardous Material Technician certification and experience with emergency medical, fixed fire protection equipment (sprinklers, low and high pressure cardox, and halon systems), and rope rescue/confined space rescue.
