Assistant Director for Residential Education at Saint Anselm College in Manchester, New Hampshire

Job Description:

This full-time professional staff position is a live-on, 12 month position, reporting directly Director of Residential Life or the VP of Student Affairs. The Assistant Director is primarily responsible for the residential curriculum and programmatic efforts of the Residential Life and Education office. The Assistant Director manages the training of the professional staff (Area Coordinators, Resident Directors) with direct supervisor over at least one Area Coordinator; indirectly supervising the development of the undergraduate paraprofessional Resident Assistant (RA) staff; supervision of all residential life staff when on-call; and managing and developing residential hall programming and community education efforts for the residential population. The Assistant Director shares responsibility in the implementation and selection of the Residential Life staff, including RAs and other student workers; participates in the campus-wide crisis on-call rotation within the Residential Life office; and supports the leadership and programming collaborative co-curricular efforts of student programs such as the Honors housing program, LLCs, first year experience, and the sophomore experience.  Additionally, the Assistant Director assists with residential operational efforts of the office in larger projects such as housing lottery, room selection, departmental/institutional assessment efforts, and administrative reporting.

As a member of the senior leadership team within the Office of Residential Life and Education, the Assistant Director works collaboratively with other departments within the division of Student Affairs, as well as other campus and academic offices.  This individual is required to interact with parents and families regarding student needs, office and college policies and practices, and other general concerns.  This individual will serve and represent the RLE office on college and department committees and at campus events such as but not limited to Orientation I and II, Senior Days, Admission events, etc. 

A Master’s degree is required in college student personnel work, leadership, counseling, or a closely-related field, with progressively responsible experience in a residence life/housing program. Energetic and creative individuals who are familiar with the traditions and ideals of Catholic higher education and have a deep appreciation of the mission of the College and the Benedictine traditions upon which it is founded are encouraged to apply. The candidate should possess knowledge and sensitivity of: student development theories and best practices; varied community building approaches; and student needs integral to those with diverse backgrounds, experiences, races, and cultures. The selected candidate will be detail-oriented and well organized, with an ability to work under pressure. The position requires a capacity to build relationships and cultivate a spirit of collaboration with campus colleagues (faculty, administration, staff, monastic community, families, and students). 

To be successful, the candidate must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and have practiced problem solving skills that reflect good decision-making and sound judgement.  The candidate must have an ability to lift objects related to the position (25 lbs.), the ability to drive a vehicle to/from student events, and the ability to assist in a variety of indoor/outdoor leadership training, including work on challenge courses, outdoor adventure outings, and other physically active programs.  Competence with technology and a working knowledge of web management and social media platforms is required.  Experience with residential life program development, supervision, and assessment is highly preferred.
