Athletic Trainer/Therapeutic Technician

Schedule: (30 hours/week)

Monday 1:00 pm -7:00 pm

Tuesday 9:30 am -6:00 pm

Wednesday 10:30 am -7:00 pm

Thursday 9:30 am -6:00 pm

  • The athletic trainer (AT) provides treatment to individuals who have, or seek to avoid, musculoskeletal injuries during participation or training for athletics or physical activity. Administers and performs appropriate techniques and method for Pre/Post rehabilitation programs and in the prevention of injuries; providing appropriate supervision of clients enrolled in these programs. Demonstrates knowledge and use of protective bracing/splinting, safety equipment, education of students, coaches and parents, and coordinates care with medical/clinical staff.
  • Maintains core competencies and any additional competencies determined to be necessary by the management team to ensure patient care needs are met.

  • Additional Responsibilities:
  • Based on programmatic need and licensure requirements may be required to provide inpatient/outpatient coverage at various locations associated with Nemours.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the care of all ages: neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, and adults.
  • Able to provide services to a variety of patient types with recognition of his/her own limitations while seeking appropriate mentorship as needed.
  • Follows basic medical precautions for each patient (for eating, drinking, mobility) and refers appropriately to health care team.
  • Organizes and implements Pre/Post rehabilitation programs, injury prevention and skill enhancement programs with recognition of his/her own limitations while seeking appropriate mentorship as needed.
  • Demonstrates use of treatment activities that are functional and relevant to the patient's established goals utilizing creativity, variety and integration of new treatment techniques and modalities. Monitors patients during exercise programs and makes adjustments and modifications to programs as necessary.
  • The ATC may assist Physical Therapists and Physical Therapy Assistants in implementing a plan of care for patients with musculoskeletal injuries under the supervision of a Physical Therapist in accordance with the Physical Therapy State Examining Board rules and regulations and departments/hospital policies and procedures
  • Uses machines and tools in a responsible manner adhering to safety practices as outlined by the manufacturer and OSHA standards. At satellite locations assumes primary responsibility to maintain equipment to manufacturer specifications and manage maintenance schedule in conjunction with clinical engineering and facilities departments.
  • Completes timely documentation as required by departmental policy #7980.3.3, Joint Commission, and CARF standards.
  • Completes all mandatory training; may include, but not limited to safety, infection control, corporate compliance, HIPAA, bioterrorism, CPR and program specific respiratory training. Attends monthly program meetings.
  • Participates in triage and coverage planning as necessary to meet patient care and departmental needs. Provides orientation, supervision and guidance to volunteers and students serving in assigned program area.
  • Team Work: Participates in conflict identification and resolution. Works cooperatively on multidisciplinary, single discipline, program specific and specialty teams. Assists in maintenance of department space and equipment.
  • Professional Development: Independently seeks to expand clinical knowledge and evidenced based practice through literature reviews, in-services, courses and mentorships. May provide input on new treatment intervention strategies to ensure evidenced-based and current practices.
  • At satellite locations the AT assumes primary responsibility to prepare and maintain therapeutic treatment and patient care areas within the safety and infection control guidelines. The AT will organize, prepare and assist in the delivery of Therapeutic and Rehabilitative patient care services at a satellite location.

  • Requirements:

    Must have BOC ATC Certification and be eligible for Delaware State Athletic Training License and appropriate state licensure for primary clinic site; must be eligible for DE licensure

  • Must hold a primary license (DE, PA, or NJ)
  • A second license will be required for all clinical positions

  • i. Must submit license or proof of application submission within 2 weeks of job acceptance, but this second license is not required to be active at the start of employment

    3. All clinical staff will maintain dual licensure (DE, PA, or NJ)

    4. BLS certification Basic Life Support (within 6 months of date of hire) and must be maintained for duration of employment
