ASSISTANT DIRECTOR| Full-Time at Harbor Child Care in New Hyde Park, New York

Job Description:

Under the supervision of the Center Director, the Assist Director shall be responsible for working within the framework of Harbor Child Care, carrying out its functions, policies, and procedures that include, but are not limited to:

Essential Functions:

The Assistant Director will provide support to the Center Director in the day-to-day operations of the center as follows:

Business Operations:


  1. Distributes bills and receives tuition payments; distributes receipts

  2. Follow up on past due accounts for collection

  3. Pro-care maintenance that include tuition billing and  reconciliations

  4. Payroll: Bi-weekly payroll reports and submission to business office

  5. CACFP: Data collection, reports generation and submission to business office monthly

  6. DSS: Maintain, update and submit attendance reports to Business office; keep track of authorizations and follow up with DSS as necessary.

  7. Bank Deposits:  Record and track receivables

Classroom:


  1. Acts as classroom teacher to provide coverage as needed

  2. Assists Center Director in determining appropriate staffing during afternoon hours and fills in when needed.

  3. Opens or closes center in absence of Center Director

  4. Creates call chains for classrooms, staff and parents

  5. Creates sign in sheets via pro-care

  6. Monitors children’s absences

  7. Sends out letters for School age/holiday letters  

  8. Assists in bus run schedules and teacher cover on buses

Buses: 


  1. Will work in coordination with the Transportation & Facilities Mgr and Center Director to route, staff and maintain bus runs.

Reception and enrollment:


  1. Answers telephone calls and relays messages

  2. Answers inquiries of prospective clients and schedules appointments for Intakes.

  3. Screen all visitors entering the building

  4. Assists Center Director in secretarial tasks associated with enrollment of families and children into the center.

Recordkeeping:


  1. Orders supplies and monitors inventory of same 

  2. Maintains Children’s files and blue cards

  3. Maintains Staff files and white cards

  4. Types kitchen menus and center calendars

  5. Performs any other reasonable duty as needed for the cohesive operation of the Center

  6. Other duties as assigned

High School Diploma AND two years direct experience working with children less than 13 years of age.

• Previous day care management experience preferred.

• Associates degree or BA in Early Childhood Education or related field preferred

• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel required; knowledge of DSS and Procare a plus.

• Willingness to attain mandated Director Requirements
