Job Description:


Moffatt & Nichol is looking for a Business Development Analyst to join our Ft. Lauderdale office to assess and conduct studies, prepare reports, and give advice on feasibility, cost effectiveness, and regulatory conformance of long- and short-range port, marine and waterfront plans, proposals, special projects, and ongoing programs to achieve the organization's growth and profitability objectives.

Duties and responsibilities:


  • Assist in providing strategic planning for port authorities to consider a range of internal and external factors that may impact on current and/or future growth and operations.

  • Assist with company project efforts with environmental laws and regulations.

  • Reviews statistical data such as population trends, create growth strategies, developing concepts, gathering and formatting information, addressing environmental and resiliency issues, evaluating and researching relevant policy and assisting with development of new policy, writing draft reports and grant applications, and obtaining approvals.

  • Prepares detailed analysis surrounding positioning, funding, the environment, economic viability, and other aspects to ensure a project site is utilized to its full potential and is sustainable for the future.

  • Prepare feasibility studies, strategic plans and master plans for ports, intermodal facilities, logistic centers and other waterfront development in conjunction with multi-disciplined professional teams.

  • Maintain current with various state and federal grant programs with intent to assist in the Identification of grant opportunities and prepare applications for grant funding.

  • Coordinate with regulatory agencies to manage permitting issues and ensure compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and all federal, state, and local environmental regulations.

  • Keep up with changes to related local, regional, state and federal policies and plans with regards ports, intermodal developments and other transportation and waterfront activities.

  • Participate in collaborative implementation of project with various staff members throughout the company.

Required education and experience:


  • Bachelor's degree in environmental engineering, business, or law

  • Graduate degree in environmental policy, environmental law, or related field

  • Minimum 1 year work in a related field or equivalent

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Preferred education and experience

  • Environmental policy and climate change class or internship work is preferred

Physical demands

Ability to use standard office equipment. Sits for a prolonged period of time.

Travel required

Travel not required. On occasion may travel to another M&N office to support projects, client offices and project site visits.
