Product Development Chemist at PPG INDUSTRIES INC in Cheswick, Pennsylvania

Job Description:

The Product Development Chemist will be responsible for completing color-matching projects for the Architectural Coatings Color Lab! This involves a broad range of responsibilities including tinting paints with a variety of manual and automated equipment, preparing color cards, digital and visual color matching, responding to color-related business requests, color formula management, and support for other development projects!

Key Responsibilities:

• Ensures that proper safety attitudes, procedures, and housekeeping are maintained on all work programs and conducts work in a manner that protects self, co-workers, the environment, and the safety of the community.
• Performs tinting, panel preparation, paint evaluation, coating evaluation, digital and visual color matching, color quality control, and colorant formulation as required to support efforts throughout the color lab.
• Operates and maintains laboratory equipment, including automatic tint machines, with limited supervision.
• Reports results (in charts, graphs, tables, and reports) in timely manner and participates in evaluation and presentation of results in formal and informal environments.
• Directs the activities and contract employees.
• Maintains laboratory and equipment in orderly and clean condition.
• Participates in the in the quality process and maintains requirements for the laboratory.
• Maintenance of lab equipment and fork truck operation.

Qualifications:

• BS degree in a technical field including but not limited to Chemistry, Polymer Science, Coatings Science, and Chemical Engineering.
• Experience with Six Sigma or other statistical approaches are preferred.
