Nemours is seeking a Support Services Technician (Operating Room), FULL-TIME, to join our Nemours Children's Hospital team in Orlando, Florida

This position is responsible to support and assist with general patient activities within these procedure areas. Primary duties of this position are patient transport, assistance with patient transfer to procedure bed/table, assistance as needed to hold limbs for surgical prep, procedure room turnover, transportation of supplies, equipment, specimens, case carts and other necessary transportation of items to and from specific destinations. This position may also include accompaniment of parent/guardian, post induction of family member, to the family waiting area.
Position Responsibilities
Safely transports patients as requested from Pre-op and nursing units using patient pick up slip. Retrieves and transports necessary patient documents from sending unit. Ensures all 02 tanks are secure on stretchers/beds for transport and replaces any empty 02 tanks with full tank following hospital policy on safe use of compressed gas cylinders
Assists with OR/Minor Procedure Room turnovers, removing trash and linens, cleaning of all surfaces in room, replacing trash and linen liners, remaking OR bed and sends used case carts to Decontamination using soiled elevator
Retrieves necessary equipment and supplies for procedures as requested by Charge Nurse, Circulating Nurse and Scrub Technician
Assists in patient transfers to and from OR/procedure table as requested, assisting with limb holding for surgical preps as requested
Transports lab specimens and blood products as requested
Restocking of general items in locker rooms and at scrub sinks, daily and as needed. Ensures an adequate stock of all necessary supplies in these areas at established par levels
Assists with orderly organization of departmental hallway equipment, equipment storage rooms, patient transport carts and ensures trash removal when necessary
Position Requirements
High School Diploma or GED required
American Heart Association BLS is required within three months of start date
Participates in unit, departmental and hospital education programs and maintains competencies
Promotes Family Centered Care
Effectively communicates patient and unit needs to OR Charge Nurse or Minor Procedure Specialty Coordinator
Promotes a safe environment for self and team members through use of personal protective equipment and Adheres to Universal Blood Borne Pathogen Precautions. Keeps work area clean and orderly, maintaining a quiet and attentive work environment.
