Senior Manufacturing Engineer at II-VI Aerospace and Defense in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Job Description:

Position Functions:

Manufacturing Engineering:


  • Evaluates, implements, maintains, and upgrades manufacturing processes, tooling, equipment and documentation to improve yields and efficiency and to reduce processing and cycle time.
  • Assesses manufacturing equipment functionality and suitability and recommends improvements, upgrades, and modifications.
  • Troubleshoots and performs root cause analyses on processes and equipment to return them to peak functionality.
  • Implements robust corrective action plans to ensure manufacturing issues are resolved in a timely manner.
  • Ensures key process variables are identified, characterized, and controlled sufficiently to consistently result in acceptable quality and cycle times.

Project Engineering and Manufacturing Process Development:

  • Supports the development and implementation of all processes, tooling, and test fixtures.
  • Develops custom thin film and patterning processes to address unique customer requirements.
  • Ensures process designs meet customer specifications and are manufacturable. Supports acceptance testing, qualification, and troubleshooting efforts.
  • Responsible for the clear documentation of processes developed for manufacturing.
  • Supports the transition of new programs from engineering to production.

Operations, Program Management, and Engineering Support:

  • Supports Operations group to ensure products are delivered on time.
  • Provides technical direction to Program Management and Operations.
  • Supports engineering and product development activities including advanced technology development, R&D, tooling development, and transition of new programs into production.
  • Supports continuous improvement projects.

Position Requires:

Education/Learning Experience:


  • Minimum BS degree in engineering or related discipline, preferably in industrial or mechanical engineering OR equivalent experience (minimum 10 years) working as a manufacturing engineer in an LCD or Semiconductor Fabrication environment.

Work Experience:

  • Min 10 years manufacturing engineering experience servicing commercial and/or aerospace/defense customers.
  • Experience with process development of precision optical or patterned products using photolithography, plating, or thin-film coating processes preferred.

Skills/Knowledge

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Strong organization skills and attention to detail required.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills required.
  • Computer skills in word processing and spreadsheet software including MS Word and Excel
  • CAD software knowledge required
  • Must be capable of reading technical drawings.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing methods for the production of precision patterns on a variety of optical, ceramic, film, or composite materials.
  • Strong knowledge of process design, development, and project planning.
  • Strong knowledge of preparing and maintaining drawings, procedures, job travelers, documentation, and configuration control.
  • Must be capable of receiving a security clearance to support government programs.
