Primary Role



The Meter Reader / FSR may be assigned to perform any responsibility that lies within the capability of the employee based on experience, knowledge, qualifications, and training.





Key Accountabilities




  • The Meter Reader / FSR must possess geographical knowledge of the Company's service area and established meter routes. Knowledge of the distribution system, as well as an understanding of gradients, piping networks, and basic electricity.

  • The Meter Reader / FSR must be capable of recording numbers and operating data acquisition equipment with speed and accuracy.

  • The individual must be capable of interpreting diagrams, blueprints, schematics, and maps and have a working knowledge of cross-connection control.

  • The Meter Reader / FSR must possess a working knowledge of Company policies, procedures and safety practices, as well as state and federal regulations regarding confined spaces applicable to area of assigned responsibility.

  • The individual must be detail oriented and capable of preparing and maintaining accurate records.

  • The Meter Reader / FSR must be capable of operating Company equipment and vehicles and must possess and maintain a valid New Jersey driver's license.

  • The individual must be able to perform the essential functions and meet the physical requirements for Meter Reader / FSR.

  • The Meter Reader / FSR will be required to pass a qualification examination developed by the Company prior to the conclusion of the qualification period.




Additional Key Accountabilities




  • Report conditions in the field that may adversely impact customer service or the public safety, as well as conditions that may result in potential damage to Company facilities. Investigate stub service accounts to insure the integrity of Company facilities.

  • Accurately record situation codes in the field to report conditions that may adversely impact customer service, the public safety, as well as situations that may result in potential damage to Company facilities.

  • Obtain and record water meter readings in Company's service area to insure accurate billing of customers' accounts within established timeframes.

  • Respond to inquiries accurately and professionally, and when necessary, involve the appropriate individuals, to resolve customer and Company-related issues and to achieve the highest level of customer service in all areas of assigned responsibilities.

  • The Meter Reader / FSR may be assigned to perform any responsibility that lies within the capability of the employee based on experience, knowledge, qualifications, and training.

  • The Meter Reader / FSR is responsible to uphold all Company policies and procedures relative to safety and act in a professional manner to reduce the exposure of hazards to their crew members, customers, contractors and themselves

  • Maintain a safe and compliant Job site at all times. Satisfy all State, OSHA and traffic standards and report and document any unsafe acts.




Knowledge/Skills



Meter Reader / FSR responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

• Locate, access, and operate Company facilities at customers' accounts, such as, but not limited to, curb stops, shutoff valves, and plumbing fixtures.

• Investigate and accurately diagnose hydraulic variations that may adversely impact customer service and initiate corrective action.

• Conduct water loss audits including, but not limited to, pipe and fixture inspections and usage patterns at customers' accounts.

• Install and/or remove meters and MIU’s.

• Complete house-to-house connections at customers' accounts to maintain service.

• Raise to grade Company facilities, such as, but not limited to, curb and valve boxes.

• Remove debris from Company facilities including, but not limited to, meter tiles and curb and valve boxes.

• Operate Company facilities, such as, but not limited to, fire hydrants and distribution system valves.

• Restore service to frozen Company facilities.

• Transport materials to and from Company facilities and/or distribution system job sites, as directed.

• Collect and deliver process control samples.

• Record pertinent data and maintain accurate records .. Utilization of field computing devices (SAP, Work One View , Map Call, Trimble, G/S Viewer etc . .)
