Job Title: Assistant Controller
Job Summary: Mesa Energy Systems has an immediate need for an Assistant Controller in Irvine, CA. This position is responsible for assisting the Controller in directing the Company's accounting and finance functions. These functions include establishing and maintaining the Company's accounting principles, practices, procedures and initiatives as well as preparing and analyzing financial reports, and presenting findings and recommendations to top management. In performing the duties of an Assistant Controller, an employee must demonstrate expertise in a wide variety of business concepts, practices and procedures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepare and post journal entries
Prepare monthly account reconciliations
Review Projects for accurate cost estimates (ECAC) and proper revenue recognition
Compile and analyze financial information to prepare financial statements
Ensure financial records are maintained in compliance with accepted policies and procedures
Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close
Monitor the implementation and maintenance of accounting control procedures
Identify and resolve accounting discrepancies
Review preparation of quarterly and annual sales/use tax returns
Prepare annual corporate tax package
Financial audit preparation and coordinate the audit process
Ensure accurate and appropriate recording and analysis of revenues and expenses
Assist in monitoring of internal controls
Analyze financial information to recommend or develop efficient use of resources and procedures, provide recommendations and solutions to business and financial problems
Maintains financial staff job results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results
Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies
Protects operations by keeping financial information and plans confidential
Qualifications:
Bachelor's or higher degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited university
Strong understanding of accounting theory and GAAP
Experience in construction accounting beneficial, but not required
Experience in Accounting system conversion a plus, but not required
Knowledge of auditing practices and principles
Knowledge of applicable laws, codes and regulations
Knowledge and experience with corporate accounting systems, COINS software familiarity beneficial
Minimum of 5 years' experience in accounting
CPA a plus, but not required
Advanced working knowledge of Excel
Experience in staff management
Experience in corporate finance
