Job Summary

Operates a limited range of foundry equipment to produce metal alloy castings.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

1. Assembles or prepares product and product components and has general knowledge of furnace functions and settings. 2. Completes well defined tasks with limited supervision to achieve acceptable output and quality. 3. Monitors product quality and takes corrective action per established protocols. 4. Operates within well defined operating procedures and department standards. 5. Visually inspects finished products for defects. 6. Communicates within a work cell to exchange information. 7. Performes cleaning and maintenance on machines within the work cell. 8. Completes documentation of operations and quantities completed. 9. Performs other tasks as directed by Management. Addendum for Job Duties Specific to Work Area: Caster B 1. Responsible for getting the metal infused into the product. 2. Cuts metal to an exact amount, cooks the metal, fills the mold with metal and then inserts molds into the oven. 3. Moves parts from oven to cooling cabinets: knocks the shells off to get to the metal. 4. Puts the parts in order for next step in process: Utility refinements. Caster B 1. Pours and cuts metals. 2. Inserts and removes mold trees from oven. 3. Total production maintenance – make sure machines are working properly, temperatures are within range, etc. 4. 6S quality checks 5. Assists in utility area as time allows. Caster B 1. Works in both Casting and Utility when needed. 2. Casting includes filling molds with melted metal (two types based on part being created), loading oven, moving molds from oven to cooling rack. 3. Utility includes knock out, blasting, cutting, snagging. Expected Areas of Competence

• Reads and interprets documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. • Read and interprets blueprints and thread gauges. Adds, subtracts, multiplies and divides in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. • Minimal direct decision-making responsibility. Advises the Department Supervisor, or designee, of special concerns as they arise. Carries out detailed written or oral instructions. Deals with problems involving concrete variables in standardized situation

Education/Experience Requirements

• Requires a high school education or equivalent and a minimum of six months experience in a foundry environment working in cutoff, snag or forming capacity. • Prior inspection or manufacturing experience preferred.
