Lead Phlebotomist - Ridgefield at Vancouver Clinic in Vancouver, Washington

Job Description:

The Lead Phlebotomist duties are in addition to the primary role of Medical Assistant-Phlebotomist. The Lead acts as an extended resource to the Supervisor / Manager of Phlebotomy Services, as well as to the department employees. This person possesses specific department knowledge for their responsible service, and must be able to execute the day-to-day workflows as communicated by the Manager. It is expected that the Lead's daily work will encompass both lead and patient care responsibilities. The objective is to assist the department in achieving efficient workflow processes, and exemplary patient experiences.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES:

Oversee Daily operations and responsibilities of patient flow within assigned areas. Delegate tasks as appropriate.


  • Reassign staff to meet the needs of the day and coordinate cross-site, as necessary.

  • Act as the first level, "go to person" for the staff regarding troubleshooting issues.

  • Assist Manager with staff schedules, coordinate vacation requests and sick calls.

  • Assist with review of time cards as needed.

  • Provide first level support to research issues and communicate findings to Manager.

  • Ensure smooth operations that support teamwork, and generate a positive attitude.


  • Creates monthly work schedules for phlebotomy staff.

  • Helps to maintain a current, up to date Specimen Collection Manual.

  • Train, communicate, and monitor any new processes to the department.

  • Helps in providing appropriate agenda topics and training at Lab Departmental meetings.

Leadership


  • Act as a mentor, role model, and resource for co-workers; lead by example.

  • Demonstrates the highest level of performance in alignment with Phlebotomy Standards of Behavior.

  • Demonstrates honesty and able to be straight forward, dealing with issues fairly and consistently.

  • Demonstrates support for team members and acknowledges individuality.

  • Facilitate the orientation and training of new and on-call staff.

  • Determine when issues need to be escalated to Manager.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:


  • Able to consistently demonstrate essential clinical competencies for this role and license/certification.

  • Ability to perform multiple moderate complexity testing platforms.

  • Subject matter expert for POCT.

  • Superior communication skills and interpersonal skills set.

  • Basic understanding of Clinic policies and procedures in order to increase staff satisfaction.

  • Ability to train and mentor standard work.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Washington State Licensure for Medical Assistant-Phlebotomist required.

  • At least one year of experience in Phlebotomy at Vancouver Clinic or five years of experience outside of VC.

  • One year experience in a leadership role preferred.
