Job Summary

Position: ELECTRONICS TECHNICIAN, GS 0856-12/13

Division: OPERATIONAL TECHNOLOGY DIVISION

Unit: Electronic Operations and Development Unit (This position is expected to relocate to Huntsville, Alabama in the future)

Location: Quantico, Virginia (No public transportation)

Working Hours: 8:00 - 4:30 (WORK HOURS OUTSIDE OF THE NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE MAY BE REQUIRED)

Salary: GS-12 - $89,834.00 - $116,788.00

GS-13 - $106,823.00 - $138,868.00

Full Performance level: GS-13

Major Duties

GS-12:
  • Assist with the operation and maintenance of antennas and radio frequency (RF) measurement equipment associated with the FBI anechoic chambers.
  • Assist with test plan development, mounting and positioning equipment under test, configuring data collection software, running measurements, organizing and displaying data output, and delivering requested customer reports.
  • Perform routine checks of antenna measurement system calibration and operation, including the lubrication of large mechanical equipment, and help with the identification, troubleshooting, and repair of any deficiencies.
  • Assist with the configuration and troubleshooting of the internal network of analyzers, processors, and data storage computers in the antenna chamber control room, and demonstrate an ability and willingness to learn to write computer scripts and modify MATLAB code for more efficient chamber operation.
  • Coordinate facility access and engage with customers across the US Intelligence Community (USIC) to identify and clarify test requirements.

GS-13
  • Responsible for test plan development, mounting and positioning equipment under test, configuring data collection software, running measurements, organizing and displaying data output, and delivering requested customer reports.
  • Perform routine checks of antenna measurement system calibration and operation, including the lubrication of large mechanical equipment, and manage the identification, troubleshooting, and repair of any deficiencies.
  • Administer and, as needed, reconfigure the internal network of analyzers, processors, and data storage computers to maintain full connectivity in and from the antenna chamber control room.
  • Responsible for the operation and maintenance of antennas and radio frequency (RF) measurement equipment associated with the FBI anechoic chambers.
  • Coordinate facility access and engage with customers across the US Intelligence Community (USIC) to identify and clarify test requirements.

Specialized Experience (SE):

GS-12: Applicant must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. SE is defined as follows:
  • Experience in RF test equipment, including spectrum analyzers, signal generators, network analyzers, and power meters, with particular preference for any experience with anechoic chambers or the test and measurement of antennas.
  • Experience servicing heavy mechanical equipment (e.g. lubricating joints, tightening large bolts, and adjusting a steel platform) and willingness and ability to learn to operate a fork lift.
  • Experience running and testing coaxial and Ethernet cables and familiarity with various RF adaptors and connectors.
  • Experience operating technical software and to connect and remotely access technical equipment, with particular preference for any experience interconnecting computers with RF test and measurement equipment.

GS-13: In addition to the above, applicant must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level. SE is defined as follows:
  • Experience operating and connecting RF test equipment, including spectrum analyzers, signal generators, network analyzers, amplifiers, mixers
  • Experience running projects involving the identification of requirements, test plan development, scientific data collection, and the formal presentation of results.
  • Experience working with and servicing heavy mechanical equipment, including the ability to operate a fork lift.
  • Experience running and testing coaxial and Ethernet cables and familiarity with various RF adaptors and connectors.
  • Experience with operating technical software and with the ability to connect and remotely access technical equipment, with particular preference for any experience writing scripts and configuring GPIB interfaces.
  • Experience with basic computer coding, with particular preference for familiarity with MATLAB.
