Serves as a regulatory technical safety expert for the facility
Works with local management teams to identify and execute strategic initiatives to reduce injury frequency and increase regulatory compliance
Conducts incident investigations to identify root causes, develop corrective actions, and work with the management team to implement effective countermeasures to prevent reoccurrence
Executes and maintains all OSHA related regulatory programs and documentation for the facility
Facilitates all regulatory required safety training for the facility
Performs regular safety audits.
High School diploma or equivalent experience
3 years of experience in an industrial setting. Active participation with a facility safety management process (i.e. safety committee) and broad knowledge of OSHA regulations as they apply to industrial safety
OSHA 511 Certification (if candidate does not possess, it will be required within the first 6 months in position)
knowledge of OSHA 1910 General Industry standards, State Safety Statutes, local municipal regulations and Publix’s internal safety policies and procedures (on the job training and/or prior experience)
thorough operational knowledge of plant and/or facility operations
knowledge of incident investigative techniques
knowledge of facility safety audit methodology and components (on the job training)
CQI methodology and on the job training
ability to effectively communicate (both written and verbal)
ability to influence internal customers and external entities such as regulatory inspectors
ability to effectively lead a safety team(s)
ability to handle confidential and sensitive information in a professional manner
exercise discretion and independent judgment
work independently without immediate day to day supervision using effective time management skills
ability to analyze injury data and identify areas of opportunity
ability to develop action plans
project management skills
situational leadership skills
ability to conduct training and give presentations for individuals as well as large groups
computer skills in applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook
willingness to work a variable work schedule including nights, holidays, and weekends as necessary
willingness to travel including nights and weekends.
Associate of Arts Degree or recognized professional designation in the field of safety
5 years of experience in an industrial setting with at least 2 years of experience where the primary responsibility was in the field of safety
1 year of experience training individuals in an industrial environment
Completion of at least one of the following courses:
501 training course
OSHA 30 Hour General Industry Training.
