Research Program Assistant II

The Coordinating Center for the Major Extremity Trauma and Rehabilitation Consortium (METRC) housed in the Department of Health Policy and Management is looking for a
Research Program Assistant II
to support the reporting and analyses for clinical trials and observational studies in Orthopaedic trauma and rehabilitation. This is a part-time position.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

The position will assist research data collection and management activities. Primary responsibilities are as follows:

  • Collaborate with assigned study teams to produce weekly study progress reports
  • Compose queries utilizing both custom R functions and preformatted generators to flag study issues at the individual data point level for each assigned study
  • Proactively seek to improve or optimize data workflows within assigned study teams
  • Utilize and update the system to track the logical framing of research concepts across the center's ongoing studies and then map those concepts to fields found in common study forms
  • Design functions that work within the automatic reporting system that produce visualizations based on combinations of research concepts
  • Assist in the maintenance of a Python Flask web server on the Google Cloud Platform that automates the collection of external administrative information and constructs and hosts on-demand study progress & query reports
  • Communicate with the Senior Research Application Developer and Data Manager regularly with respect to data management related issues

Other Potential Responsibilities:

  • Teach what they have learned to new Data-Centric Research Assistants
  • Write detailed documentation/specifications for both existing and yet to be built research applications
  • Create tables and figures in publication-quality form summarizing the results of statistical analyses and present results orally to study investigators

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • 2 years related experience. Internship experience helping with data analysis in a study team preferred.
  • Additional education may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • The candidate should have strong organizational, communication and writing skills.
  • The applicant also must have experience using some form of GIT.
  • Basic programming skills in R/SAS/STATA and basic website backend skills in Python/Node.

Starting Salary Range: $15.00 - $20.00/hr (commensurate with experience)

Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers.
