Master Production Scheduler at Vallourec in Houston, Texas

Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY:  The Master Production Scheduler for End Finishing & Threading South Operations is responsible for the planning and scheduling of Mass Production in the South (Sheldon Road End Finishing & Threading, Muskogee End Finishing & Threading and VAM Miller Road Threading). The person in this role will strive to ensure smooth and efficient operations, timely delivery to the customer and good inventory control. 


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Work is highly independent, and the Master Scheduler is seen as a specialist on complex technical and business matters.

  • Responsible for scheduling product to best meet customer requirements while optimizing internal production flow and constraints.

  • Communicate with other departments on a continuous basis to ensure schedules adjust to changing customer requirements, upstream product availability and/or production capability.

  • Use lean manufacturing practices and systems to reduce lead times, reduce inventory and maximize throughput.

  • Update and maintain the Sheldon Road, Miller Road and Muskogee rough-cut capacity plans based on the demand forecast, compilation of historical demonstrated operating data and validation of forecast assumptions. Work with operating managers to validate data and to set monthly production targets. Review month over month variances with controlling for explanations to be included in the monthly forecast review presentation.

  • Work with Internal Sales on non-cycle demand requests to adequately fill capacities and meet customer expectations (ie LOD).

  • Pre/Direct allocation of green tube and aged inventory, claim returns, rejects and downgraded material in the most cost-efficient manner.

  • Plan and establish production schedules for plant operations to balance customer requirements with inventory control policies, monitor material inventories, track progress of production, and review factors, which affect production schedules.

  • Track, analyze & prepare reports on aged inventory for PRI meetings.

  • Understanding of product specifications and their effect on allocation of material.

  • Analyze, track and report customer on time delivery information.

  • Monitor customer orders for shortages during the production process, communicate short orders to sales for disposition.

  • Monitor and manage available inventory, allocate to customer orders, monitor for overages during the production process, communicate overages to sales to minimize PRI, and meet PRI objectives.

  • Create and manage month end reports.

  • Work with outside processing teams to generate workload capacities, timelines, and purchase requests for completion.

  • Supervise, train and monitor performance of schedulers within the department.

  • Provide back up to Plant Scheduler(s) during vacations and furloughs.

  • Develop programs/SOPs to increase efficiencies within the department.

  • Special projects as needed.


SKILL AND KNOWLEDGE:



  • Strong communicator with excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong analytical, reasoning and leadership skills.

  • Sound knowledge of supply chain processes and procedures including manufacturing planning, demand, and replenishment.

  • SAP and APS (Advanced Planning & Scheduling) Systems, a plus.


EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND CERTIFICATIONS: 



  • BS., B.A. in Business/ Supply Chain or related discipline preferred or 5+ years’ experience working in manufacturing, supply chain management or a related field.

  • APICS/ASCM CPIM or CSCP certification preferred.
