Materials Manager at PPG INDUSTRIES INC in Sylmar, California

Job Description:

As the Materials Manager, you will be responsible for directing and managing the material planning operations including Tactical Purchasing, Production Control and Inventory Management. This position is a leadership role that will drive continuous improvement and the implementation of best practices in the areas of material and value stream management.

Key Responsibilities :

• Develop and execute the material management action plans required to achieve the department goals related to inventory time supply, inventory levels, customer service levels and cost reductions.
• Support and help implement the policies, procedures, systems and programs required to meet the department objectives and to ensure continuous improvement in all material management and supply planning areas.
• Ensure that there is a balanced and healthy direct material inventory position so that there are minimal interruptions to production.
• Supervise the material management team consisting of production planners, stockroom and material planners.
• Lead and manage cross-functional teams related to planning and purchasing initiatives and continuous improvement programs.
• Drive inventory reduction activities including specific strategies for managing raw materials.
• Ensure high physical inventory accuracies at key plant locations.
• Evaluate the production plans, plant capacities and supplier capacities to determine trends, resource requirements and constraints.

• Solid knowledge of lean manufacturing and JIT principles and be able to effectively apply them in the appropriate situations.
• Extensive experience with planning/pull systems and MRP concepts such as time fences, demand, consumption rules, and projected OH calculations.
• 5 to 7 years' experience in managing an operations related team
• Strong analytical and mathematical skills
• Intermediate to Advance Excel skills
• B.S. in Engineering, Mathematics, Operations preferred or equivalent education and experience.
• APICS Certification a plus
