The Need 

After 25 years of continued growth and operational success in pioneering the work of protecting those who are experiencing poverty from violence, IJM has become a $100+ million organization. As IJM continues this trajectory of growth and scaling of its impact, with the Vision to protect 500 million people by the year 2030, IJM’s Director, US Accounting and Operations is seeking a Staff Accountant who will support the work of justice by participating in the essential business functions of accounts payable and financial operations for the US. 

This position can be based remotely (preferably in central or eastern time zones) with some travel to Washington DC. and reports to Director, US Accounting and Operations. 

 


Responsibilities: 

Policies and Procedures 

  • Accounting Standards update: Work with the Director of US Accounting and Operations to update IJM accounts payable, procurement and payroll related policies based on the latest GAAP pronouncements.  

 

Documentation, Reporting & Data Management 


  • Account Reconciliation: Reconciliation of bank accounts, accounts payable and other general ledger account balances. 


  • Journal Entries: Assist with month-end closing and quarterly reporting process including processing journal entries and making accruals. 


 

Trainings  

  • Lead trainings for staff in relation to accounts payable, expense reporting and time tracking in accordance with Company policies. 

 

General Accounting & Statutory Compliance 


  • Monthly Close: Participate in monthly close process; account analysis and reconciliation, post journal entries and resolve questions for a timely close. 


  • Year-end Close: Assist with the 1099 and 1042 record keeping process, filing forms electronically to the IRS, and mailing the forms to the suppliers. Continuing to improve the payment process. 


  • Audit and Tax Filings: Work with the Director of US Accounting and Operations to gather support for the annual financial statement audit and Form 990 for all aspects of the accounts payable and payroll. Perform reconciliations and checks for accuracy of expenses and payables information; compile schedules for financial statement audit. 


 

General Tasks 

  • Process Improvement: Collaborate with global team members to continuously work on improving existing processes and use of technology to improve efficiency and effectiveness.   Work closely with AP and Payroll team members responsible to track performance and efficiency.  

 

Requirements:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; 


  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred;  


  • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant work experience;


  • Proven ability to apply US GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles);


  • Experience with Workday Financials preferred;


  • Project management skills and ability to manage multiple and conflicting priorities;


  • Ability to quickly learn and use different software and systems like Workday;


  • Demonstrated ability to research, understand and communicate any changes in US GAAP that would impact accounts payable and procurement;


  • High proficiency in Microsoft Excel in particular and Office Suite in general; and


  • Professional written and oral communication skills.
