Job Description:

Primary Functions:


  • The Ultrasonic Technician will use technique cards, procedures, and work instructions to perform calibrations and ultrasonically evaluate wrought forgings for acceptance/rejection determinations according to written instructions and record results.
  • Use tongs, chains, or straps to attach forgings to crane/hoist
  • Uses ultrasonic equipment while standing and/or bending to ultrasonically inspect wrought forgings for extended periods of time.
  • Maintains a clean & orderly work environment in compliance with 5S. Uses caution & proper handling of company property, equipment, tools, and customer products

Requirements:


  • Certified NAS410, with applicable formal classroom training documentation and on-the-job-training hours.
  • Previously certified Ultrasonic Level 2 inspectors will be given 32 hours of refresher classroom training reviewing Howmet Cleveland inspection techniques and will be required to pass the Ultrasonic General, Specific, and Practical exams within 8 weeks of starting.
  • Capable of reading and interpreting ultrasonic specifications, procedures, and written instructions to ultrasonically inspect wrought forgings.
  • The Ultrasonic Technician must demonstrate proficiency and be thoroughly familiar with the scope and limitations of the ultrasonic method.
  • Responsible to train new candidates and Level 1 ultrasonic inspectors to become Level 2 inspectors.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to clearly communicate with team members, supervisors, customers, and all others throughout the organization in a professional manner.

Sufficient vision, either natural or corrected, with ability to pass an annual vision exam

  • Ability to work in extreme heat and extreme cold conditions.
  • Continuously required to wear common Protective or Safety Equipment such as Safety Shoes, Glasses, Gloves, Hearing Protection, Hard Hats.
  • Ability to use computers.
  • Continuously required to stand; walk; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
  • The ability to raise/lower an object with control by reaching near floor, knee, waist, or chest levels.
  • The ability to keep or regain balance or remain upright when walking on varying surfaces.
  • The ability to make precisely coordinated movements with fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, place or assemble.

  • Candidates must have the flexibility to rotate in different positions throughout the plant
  • Candidates must be able to work any shift (days, afternoons, or nights)
  • This position requires overtime on weekdays as well as weekends
  • Subject to preemployment contingencies: drug test, physical, and background check

Use air wand to blow off excess water on the forgings; complete sonic reports.
Move parts to be inspected from pallet/baskets to water tanks using undermount crane. Standing/ Leaning/Bending: perform inspection using a bridge, or a scrubber to inspect parts for defects. Responsible for training new candidates, ability to clearly communicate with team members, supervisors, customers and all others in a professional manner. Starting wage of $25.316+/hour plus $3.52 in Cost of Living adjustments based on job classification. Candidates will be subject to a 90 day probationary and training period. The qualified candidate must Use technique cards, checks calibration and sets up equipment; using hoist, Use ultrasonic equipment to inspect aluminum forgings for internal defects that are submerged in water, in large above ground tanks.
