Associate Client Investment Officer - OCIO, Retirement Plans Practice

SUMMARY
Outsourced Chief Investment Officer (OCIO) business offers world-class investment management combined with program oversight, manager research, customized program design, global custody and client servicing. The OCIO group serves a global client base including: corporate pension and retirement plans, foundations, endowments, healthcare organizations and government, family office/multi-family office, not-for-profit and public funds.

After carefully defining a client's return objective and risk tolerance, the OCIO team builds a customized multi-manager investment program diversified across multiple asset classes, managers and styles. The result is a comprehensive investment program that increases the probability of achieving a client's investment objectives over the long-term, while seeking to minimize risk and volatility of returns over the short-term. The integrated suite of investment solutions includes: actuarial services, asset/liability studies, cash flow analysis, investment policy design, asset allocation, investment manager research and selection, program construction, program monitoring and evaluation, portfolio rebalancing, performance measurement, risk management, defined benefit and defined contribution plan management, trust and custody services, and credit services.

SCOPE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

As a member of the Outsourced Chief Investment Officer("OCIO") team, the Associate Client Investment Officer is responsible for assisting senior staff in the management of client investment programs. Provide client servicing support as necessary. Review client portfolios daily and identify issues based upon understanding of client investment programs. Participate in client meetings when appropriate. The position is geared toward early career investment professionals with interest in acquiring the knowledge and skills to develop into Client Investment Officers.

Key duties and responsibilities include:


  • Provides investment management support by maintaining awareness of portfolio asset allocation and construction and prepares review material for client meetings.
  • Reviews client portfolios daily and identifies issues based upon understanding of client investment programs.
  • Executes transactions to rebalance client investment programs and works with bank partners to post client buy/sell transactions.
  • Partners with portfolio management team and manager research on all additions, replacements and removal of managers/investments from client programs
  • Coordinates with performance team to analyze and prepare client portfolio information.
  • Verifies data accuracy and completes all client deliverables in a timely manner while accommodating any unique client requirements or requests.
  • Ensures client and process procedures are maintained and updated on a regular basis.
  • Operates independently with in-depth knowledge of business unit / function.
  • Carries out complex activities with significant financial, client, and business impact.
  • Participates in client meetings, when appropriate
  • Maintains awareness of Northern Trust's economic and market expectations

QUALIFICATIONS


  • Excellent analytical, verbal, and written communication skills are required.
  • In-depth knowledge of client servicing, investment, and/or portfolio management is required.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills are required.
  • Technical skills / systems knowledge (e.g., Microsoft Office) is required.
  • College degree required.
  • 3 to 5 years' work experience preferred, ideally in investments, trading, operations.
  • CFA candidate preferred.
