Provides collaboration, administrative and technical leadership for the Real Time Operation training group, including the oversight of developing/delivering training, testing, qualification and certification of control room personnel and field personnel in adherence to NERC Standards/Requirements. Additionally, any training that pertains to the safe and reliable operation and maintenance of the ITC transmission systems.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES
Provides oversight for the development and administrative training program for ITC staff in compliance with all North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) standards/requirements for personnel training.
Conducts training of the Operations Control Room (OCR) staff using classroom instruction, guest speakers, computer simulation, field observation, testing and on-the-job training.
Oversees the design, development and delivery of training modules and manuals.
Ensures maintenance of detailed records of all aspects of training, in compliance with NERC standards.
Provides oversight for developing, configuring and administering training simulations for various electric transmission system emergency and non-system emergency scenarios that affect Company employees.
Participates in skill and method enhancement training by attending seminars, classes and meetings to learn new skills and methods of instruction.
Provides oversight for the design and facilitation of internal as well as joint training drills with other utilities.
Provides oversight for developing criteria and administering testing to certify and annually re-certify field Protection Leaders, field Substation Operators and OCR personnel in the application of the ITC’s switching and tagging process.
Provides necessary training and support to maintain OCR employees' NERC certifications.
Establishes metrics for evaluating performance to achieve company goals.
Supervises and coach employees to achieve individual and organizational excellence.
Creates a collaborative working relationship with internal and external key stakeholders to negotiate critical issues to ensuring appropriate business outcomes.
Maintains NERC-approved Continuous Education Provider credentials for ITC.
Assists the Manager OCR with the remediation of any training-related control room performance issues.
Represents the Company at various industry training related work groups, committees, etc.
Meets annual financial targets through forecasting, monitoring, and adjusting to operational needs.
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree required in Science, Engineering or Technology or relevant, equivalent experience and/or education.
Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in electric utility system operations or engineering such as Transmission System Coordinator, System Operator, Controller, Substation Operator, Electrical Engineer, or Compliance.
Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in a training role, consisting of technical or electric industry training that utilizes instructional design based on a Systematic Approach to Training
Minimum of three (3) years of supervisory experience
Obtains NERC System Operator/Reliability Coordinator certification within (1) year of taking role.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work with minimal supervision.
Ability to multi-task.
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and web-based training tools.
Possess sound organizational and documentation skills.
