Process Modeling Engineer at PPG INDUSTRIES INC in Springdale, Pennsylvania

Job Description:

As a Process Modeling Engineer, you will apply engineering principles to build mathematical models of chemical processes using Aspen and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software packages. The goal in this position is to verify conceptual engineering design, speed up product and process development, ensure robust process scale up, promote continuous improvement to manufacturing, and support customers for applications of PPG products!

Key Responsibilities

• Develop models to enable virtual simulation of PPG processes using data from the manufacturing plant and theoretical sources.


• Generate innovative concepts for new technologies using numerical techniques and identify potential research areas which would benefit new technology development.


• Analyze results, summarize findings, and communicate these to managers and directors in engineering, manufacturing, and R&D.


• Work with external resources to advance modeling capability, expand capacity and accelerate model development.
  

• Master or Ph. D. degree in Chemical Engineering, Polymer Materials Engineering, mechanical engineering or equivalent education with some computational experience for industrial product/process development.


• Proficiency in using ANSYS CFD and/or Star-CCM+ for process modeling; Aspen Plus and/or ACM-based chemical process modeling expertise is appreciated.


• Ability to use statistical tools such as JMP to analyze data from various sources.


• Capable of domestic travel up to 20%.
