Staff Mobile Engineer, App Growth

As a Staff Mobile Engineer with the App Growth team, you will join us as we make a huge impact in the e-commerce space. This role is Hybrid, which means you will work some days on-site and some days remotely from home or other locations.

What you’ll do
Be part of the Best Buy Customer Relationship Engineering team responsible for designing and implementing technical solutions that will reach massive scale.


  • Lead software design and development efforts to build and launch customer journey experiences in the Relationship Offerings and App Growth space and other teams across Best Buy. In this role, you'll be a key leader on our team, helping drive outcomes, partnering with other engineering and product teams and stakeholders throughout the organization.

  • Identify opportunities in the SDLC, application support, reliability, and monitoring; and recommend tools and standards to be used across teams to improve efficiency.

  • Understands and can communicate effectively about the tradeoffs between technical, analytical, and product needs.

  • Understand and influence the broad architecture of multiple systems or processes

  • Owns the technical testing and performance of the products or process they support.

  • Strong demonstrated ability to work directly with technical leads, engineers, product managers, and business stakeholders

  • Use your creative and innovation-driven mindset to articulate engineering design strategies related to scale, performance, security, and usability.

  • Influencing the design and development of back-end services and abstractions to help mobile apps retrieve information from various domain services.

Basic qualifications

  • 5 or more years of progressive responsibilities in one or more of the following areas: software/web development, application delivery, design or architecture for mobile, web or service-oriented environments

  • 4 or more years of experience with native mobile (iOS, Android, or React-Native) and familiarity with mobile design and architecture.

  • 2 or more years using React-Native

  • 1 or more years of experience leading development teams (technical leadership, work direction, coaching and mentoring)

  • 1 or more years of experience working closely with product managers and other teams to lead feature implementation and identify/recommend solutions.

Preferred qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field OR equivalent combination of education and/or experience

  • 7 or more years of relevant professional experience

  • A history of delivering projects on time and working to make accurate estimates that can be delivered upon.

  • Agile development practical experience

  • Good understanding of mobile design and application patterns including experience with React Native and native iOS or Android.

  • Test-driven development, refactoring, automated unit test, integration test, functional test, and continuous integration/deployment.

  • Proficiency with Object Oriented Design principles and patterns

  • Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills

  • Strong product focus: we expect everyone to do what is needed to deliver the best product for our customers.

  • Excellent communication skills, both inside and outside the engineering team

  • Someone who likes to create new things, both inside and outside the work environment
