Job Description:

Director of Intercultural Affairs

Location: Geneva, NY
Open Date: $OpenDate

Description
The Director of Intercultural Affairs (the Director) serves as an advocate for the interests of underrepresented and underserved identities on the campus. Leveraging their expertise, and partnerships with stakeholders across campus, the Director engages with students one-on-one and serves as a key resource for students and campus cultural, affinity, and social justice clubs, with a focus on students who represent or have a particular interest in minoritized identities and persons of color.

Reporting to the Vice President of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, the Director manages the Alger Adams Intercultural Center, (“The AIC"), which serves as a “home away from home” for minoritized and underrepresented students, and in particular, students of color. As a physical focal point for the support and celebration of historically underrepresented or underresourced identities, the AIC, under the guidance of the Director, is a strategic institutional resource which additionally serves as a welcoming “front door” and resource to the Geneva community. Key internal stakeholders and collaborators include but are not limited to the First Generation Initiative (FGI), the Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP), the Posse Scholars program, International Student Success (ISS), the LGBTQ-Resource Center, the STEM Scholars program, the Center for Community Engagement and Service Learning, the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL), Alumni and Alumnae Relations, the Hobart and William Smith Academic Deans Offices, and the Salisbury Center for Career Services.

As a member of the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (ODEI), the Director serves to unlock the benefits of a multicultural campus community, facilitating cross-connections across lines of identity between individual students and student organizations, while amplifying and promoting the benefits of a diverse campus community to all community members.

This is a full-time, on-site position, whose primary responsibilities, in addition to student mentoring and student employee guidance and supervision, include program development, event management and promotion, fiscal and budget management, and oversight of the assets and the physical venue of the Adams Intercultural Center. A key component of the role is the ability to build relationships with and among students and in particular student leaders, to collaborate effectively with staff and faculty across the campus, and to serve as a welcoming point of contact for community partners.

Developing and executing signature AIC events, such as the AIC graduation dinner, the graduation farewell brunch, and the Alger Adams Scholars recognition program are core responsibilities, as well as scaffolding and proactively promoting significant cultural celebrations such as Black History Month, Hispanic Heritage Month, and Women's History Month. The Director is a primary point of contact for the Afro Latino Alumni Association (ALAA), as well as local community organizations with aligned missions, such as the NAACP, and the Martin Luther King Day Celebration Committee.

Working hours are flexible. Availability to support evening programming is required.
