Job Description:

General Summary/Overview Statement



Working primarily independently, under general supervision from the Principal Investigator (PI), the selected candidate will execute wet-lab protocols necessary for the structural and copy number evaluation of cancer genomes. Specifically, this individual will be trained - by appropriate representatives from commercial entities, and research laboratories, where appropriate - to establish proficiency at wet-lab protocols necessary for Optical Genome Mapping (OGM), developing and modifying existing standard operating procedures as necessary. This individual will also perform preliminary data analysis, as guided by the PI, and may contribute to the development of protocol modifications. Strong communication skills and organizational abilities are an asset. If interested, there will be opportunities to present the data findings at local and national meetings.



Principal Duties and Responsibilities



1. Following a training period, independently performs wet-lab protocols necessary for Optical Genome Mapping (OGM), and other wet-lab protocols as directed.


2. Develops in-house standard operating procedures for moderate to complex routine experiments, specific, and modifies as necessary, under the supervision of the PI.


3. Performs preliminary data analysis as guided by the PI.


4. Performs literature reviews and communication with vendors to assist in the development of assay-modifications and for publications.


5. Coordinates collection, performance and analysis of assays being performed.


6. Coordinates lab activities such as infection control, radiation safety, and bio-safety activities.


7. Maintains supplies inventory in accordance with departmental procedures.


8. Discusses progress of work regularly with supervisor.


9. Assists in the orientation and training of new staff.


10. All other duties as assigned.



Qualifications

Qualifications



BS in biological/physical science required.


New graduates with relevant course or project work encouraged to apply

Strong organization skills


• Excellent oral and written communication skills


• High degree of computer literacy. Experience with R and/or other programming languages is an asset


• Must be able to logically and effectively structure tasks and set priorities.


• Ability to identify potential problems and trouble-shoot solutions.
