Job Summary / Basic Function:


Job Summary:The Automotive/Diesel Instructor's responsibilities include, but are not limited to, providing instruction for students enrolled in auto/diesel courses (along with other related courses and topics) in the Technology Department, including dual credit high school students. This individual is also responsible for maintaining office hours; and teaching extended day classes, labs, and hybrid/online courses, as required, both on campus and at alternate locations. This individual helps coordinate and attend advisory committee meetings; attends workshops, seminars, and conferences to upgrade teaching skills; assists in the development of curriculum, as needed; and maintain program computer labs. All LIT faculty are responsible for recruitment and retention as a part of achieving the Institute's Shared Vision of Growth and Excellence. This is an exempt position.

Duties/Responsibilities:


  • Actively engage students in the learning process

  • Maintain ethical and professional behavior

  • Maintain knowledge of and adherence to the policies and procedures contained in the TSUS and LIT Policies and Procedures Manual

  • Participate in college service, which includes but is not limited to, committee work, advising and/or tutoring students, and recruiting

  • Teach classes during the fall and spring semesters as required by the department (might include day, evening, weekend, and Early College High School/dual credit); including online courses

  • Provide mentorship to dual credit partners/mentees

  • Attend Teaching and Learning Center sessions to enhance teaching skills

  • Stay abreast of national matters and trends in education

  • Participate in assessment activities for the LIT Core Curriculum

  • Assist in the development of curriculum as needed

  • Perform other related duties, as required





Physical Requirements:This position requires the ability to: remain in a stationary position for most of the time; occasionally move about inside an office to access documents, office equipment, etc.; constantly operate a computer or other office equipment, such as a printer or copy machine.
Minimum Qualifications:



  • Associate degree or diploma in automotive/diesel Technology, or specialized/related training with an emphasis on demonstrated competency and achievement

  • Demonstrated recent industry experience (within 5 years) with a strong background in electrical/electronics, hydraulics, brakes, suspensions, automatic transmission, engines, and powertrains in the automotive and/or diesel industry

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications

  • Knowledge of teaching methodologies/pedagogical strategies

  • Possess good verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to work well in a team environment

  • Possess good time management skills


Preferred Qualifications:

Experience teaching in higher educationRelated field and/or industry certifications
