Job Description:

ROLE SUMMARY

 

The primary role of this position is to contribute to RNA Platform improvements to help advance Pfizer's RNA vaccine programs. The candidate will work closely with the mRNA Platform director to develop and apply interdisciplinary approaches to understand the mechanisms of action of different types of RNA-based viral vaccine drug substance and lipid nanoparticle drug products and participate in the development of next-generation RNA vaccine prototypes.

 

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Work closely with the mRNA Platform director to develop mRNA based vaccines
  • Design mRNA genetic/structural elements & support the development of novel delivery methods for efficient RNA transfer into target cells for optimum vaccine efficacy
  • Conduct cellular and molecular studies (eg. RT-qPCR, FACs, Luminex, Confocal Microscopy-based assays) to understand the mechanisms of action of novel RNA vaccine candidates
  • Develop novel tools to visualize and quantify exogenous mRNA and protein interactions in subcellular compartments and in RNA granules with high spatiotemporal resolution, at the single molecule level

 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Ph.D. with 0-3 years relevant industry experience in pre-clinical research and in vaccine technology development
  • Hands on experience in mRNA synthesis, purification, characterization, and translational profiling
  • Strong understanding of RNA biology and modeling for RNA folding and RNA-protein interactions
  • Hands on experience with cell culture and cell-based assays including confocal microscopy-based single molecule assays to characterize RNA-based products
  • Displayed experience in scientific analysis, cross-functional collaboration, scientific writing, and public speaking

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Ph.D. in Immunology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology
  • Experience in lipid nanoparticle formulation and characterization
  • Proficiency in High-Content Imaging using confocal microscopies and associated imaging software
  • Proficiency in process development of mRNA-LNP & automation solutions

 

NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS

 

  • On-site (laboratory-based). Must be able to access or utilize reliable transportation to the Pearl River site
  • Experimental designs may occasionally necessitate being on-site early/late or on weekends as needed
  • Potential to work with/come in contact with infectious materials

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $88,300.00 to $147,100.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer's Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 12.5% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
