The Fabrication Shop Lead Senior (Metal) will lead and support work activities of fabricators, perform fabrication work for programs, full vehicle builds, retrofits, garage services, and prototype development programs and ensure established safety, environmental, quality, and manufacturing procedures are followed. The role will interact and communicate with customers, management, and employees and provide support to the Shop Supervisor. The Fabrication Shop Lead Senior (Metal) will mentor and coach team members in all aspects of fabrication project support.

As the Fabrication Shop Lead Senior, you will be responsible for:

  • Lead and manage team members including providing guidance and training
  • Delegate tasks and assignments, monitor progress, and check quality
  • Interact and communicate with internal and external customers to resolve issues
  • Fabricate using metal forming, machining, welding and blueprint reading skills
  • Track and approve attendance, scheduling, tool calibration and timecards
  • Manage employee conflict, safety incidents, and emergency situations
  • Maintain shop equipment by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, performing preventive maintenance, calling for repairs
  • Lead daily shop organization and clean-up
  • Track issues and Quality Operating System (QOS)

As the Fabrication Shop Lead Senior, you will need:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in a fabrication shop environment
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) and Metal Inert Gas (MIG) welding
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience operating power brakes, metal shears and bench machines
  • Minimum of 6 months of informal leadership experience
  • Good knowledge of machining operations, Computer-Aided Design (CAD) files and blueprints
  • Good technical knowledge of reading, understanding, and executing fabrication and welding blueprints
  • Excellent knowledge of laying out material, taking measurements using a tape measure, and scale and height gauge
  • Advanced knowledge of safely operating fabrication shop machinery equipment such as plasma cutter, Oxy-Fuel torch, Bridgeport, Lathe, drill press, material shear, and press brake. Ability to operate vehicle lift
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office and good computer skills

A successful candidate may also have:

  • Certificate in Welding Technology, Engineering Technology or related
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Knowledge of designing, developing, creating, and implementing die and punch set-ups
  • Knowledge of sheet metal forming using English wheel, plenishing hammer, hammer and bag
  • Ability to analyze, modify and create CAD files and blueprints as well as Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machine tool path simulations
  • Ability to use a surface plate to layout and locate material to X, Y, Z coordinates. Good knowledge of mechanical assembly
  • Good knowledge of mechanical assembly
