  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Documented and verifiable training and education equivalent to Level 2 per NAS410. Other programs are acceptable if the minimum classroom and training hours are meet.

  • Experience as Level 2 in Ultrasonic Immersion testing of metals.

  • Ability to participate in Level 2 refresher class and training on Howmet equipment, materials, and procedures.

  • Ability to pass Vision exam per NAS410.

  • Ability to pass UT General, Specific and Practical Exams per Howmet Niles Written Practice, in accordance with NAS410.

Candidate's Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Documented and verifiable training and education equivalent to Level 2 per NAS410. Other programs are acceptable if the minimum classroom and training hours are meet.

  • Experience as Level 2 in Ultrasonic Immersion testing of metals.

  • Ability to participate in Level 2 refresher class and training on Howmet equipment, materials, and procedures.

  • Ability to pass Vision exam per NAS410.

  • Ability to pass UT General, Specific and Practical Exams per Howmet Niles Written Practice, in accordance with NAS410.

Primary Function:

To perform all appropriate phases of ultrasonic testing on various products. Examine and test the properties of the material to detect possible faults like melt defects, cracks, flaws, and other discontinuities.

Tools and Equipment Used:

Ultrasonic immersion tanks: conventional a-scan and c-scan, and multizone, ultrasonic instruments, transducers, calibration blocks, measuring and lifting devices.

Materials:

Various grades of titanium and other metals, ingot, billets, bars, and flat products.

Supervision Received:

Department supervisor.

Working Procedure:


  • Receives assignment and instructions from supervision.

  • Perform all work in accordance with established company standards and safety procedures.

  • Prepares surface of material to be tested by removing dirt, grease, etc. when necessary.

  • Places material in tanks or racks by use of overhead pendant crane and/or hi lift.

  • Set up and operate ultrasonic equipment by adhering to established procedures and standards to determine the size and location of any defects in the material tested.

  • Follows procedures, processes and inspection techniques to determine the test results.

  • Maintains identity of material.

  • Marks location of defects or no test areas on material, and records data such as material identification and test results on drawings and forms.

  • Completes required reports, forms, and other associated documents according to level of certification.

  • Reports malfunctioning equipment to supervision and maintenance personnel.

  • Keeps work area in a clean, orderly and safe condition.

  • Performs periodic equipment accuracy checks and calibration tests.

  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance tasks and overall upkeep of equipment.

  • Assure all work is performed completely, correctly, and with the highest degree of quality.

  • All operators are required to participate in continuous ultrasonic training and examination in order to achieve and maintain levels of certification per I-603.

  • Level 2 personnel are required to participate in training and technical supervision of trainees and Level 1 personnel.

  • May be called upon to perform inspections in presence of and answer questions from an outside company, customer, or auditor (i.e., Nadcap) regarding UT procedures.

  • Perform other job-related tasks as assigned by management.

  • This position entails access to export-controlled items and employment offers are conditioned upon an applicant's ability to lawfully obtain access to such items.
