Position Title: Gun Violence Prevention Fellow

Salary Range: $16/hr - $16/hr

Position Summary:

The New York County District Attorney's Office (DANY) has two openings for the 2024 Gun Violence Prevention Fellowship. The three-month fellowship offers young adults affected by gun violence an immersive platform to work with our staff on transformative strategies. At the end of the program, the fellows will present the District Attorney with innovative policy or legislative solutions to address gun violence. The fellows will be paid minimum wage.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:


  • Engage with DANY partners and community organizations.
  • Analyze gun violence issues through collaboration with topic experts.
  • Create content for the GVP Fellows Instagram page.
  • Create and present a gun violence prevention proposal to the DA and other executive staff.
  • Perform related tasks as assigned.


In addition to the Minimum Qualification Requirements, candidates must possess the following:

  • Applicants must be between the ages of 18-25.
  • Must have high school diploma or GED.
  • Must be enrolled in college or have 1 year of work/volunteer experience.
  • Must currently reside, work, or attend college in one of the five boroughs.

Minimum Qualification Requirements:


  1. For Assignment Level I:
    Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school.

  2. For Assignment Level II (Information Technology):
    Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or closely related field, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study.

  3. For Assignment Level III (Information Technology Fellow):
    Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or other area relevant to the information technology project(s) assigned, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study. Appointments to this Assignment Level will be made by the Technology Steering Committee through the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications.
    SPECIAL NOTE:
    Maximum tenure for all Assignment Levels in the title of College Aide is 6 years. No student shall be employed more than half-time in any week in which classes in which the student is enrolled are in session. Students may be employed full-time during their vacation periods.


Hours/Shift:

  • Fellow must be present for the duration of the program from March 18th - August 30th, 2024.
  • The fellowship is in-person Monday through Friday from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm.
