Job Description:

The Moscow Food Co-op seeks Wellness Specialist who is responsible for providing excellent customer service to Co-op customers while maintaining product stock in the Wellness department promptly and with accuracy. The wellness specialist also helps with receiving product, maintaining attractive end caps, shelves, and displays. Additional duties include maintaining and cleaning product areas and providing assistance with special orders. Wellness staff is apart of the Center Store Team and assists with grocery customer service, stocking, fronting and facing, and inventory.

This is a Full-time (38-40 hrs) or Part-time (20-29 hrs) position. Days and shifts vary and includes, early mornings, closing and weekends. Must be available to work during all university breaks.

Job Description

.

Position Summary

The Wellness Specialist will assist the Center Store Manager by providing excellent customer service to Co-op customers while stocking products in the Wellness department promptly, efficiently and accurately. This position will work closely with the Wellness and Grocery Team in meeting goals for sales and customer service.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Customer Service


  • Maintain a professional demeanor with customers and staff members at all times.

  • Provide excellent, courteous customer service by approaching and assisting customers in a timely and polite manner and by maintaining appropriate floor coverage

  • Cover department shifts when needed and assist in other areas of the store as time permits. 

  • Provide assistance with special orders, ensuring that special orders are being correctly priced and called.

  • Attend trainings assigned by Center Store Manager to stay current with the latest developments in nutrition, supplements, and natural body care.

Stocking


  • Assist in receiving product and stock product in the correct location on the floor and in back stock accurately and promptly.

  • Rotate product according to standard procedures in department.

  • Ensure that all storage areas are in a clean and orderly condition:  take out trash and recyclables and boxes, dust and wipe surfaces, clean up spills, sweep and mop floors, help organize storage areas.

  • Communicate incorrect orders, out-of-stocks, and other issues with buyers.

  • Assist in preparing department for and participate in inventory counts.

Merchandising


  • Help maintain attractive, fully stocked and faced end caps, shelves, and displays.

  • Front, face, and clean products and shelves on a normal basis.

  • Help maintain proper signage by replacing shelf tags and requesting sale signs when needed.

  • Ensure that the store is faced every closing shift and as needed.

Department Maintenance


  • Keep retail display areas and back-stock in clean, orderly condition, meeting health department standards.


  • Record department shrink/damage promptly and accurately.


  • Dust and clean shelves and product when stocking, remove trash promptly, and sweep and mop sales floor as needed.


  • Maintain department equipment in working order. Monitor cooler temperatures (where applicable) and follow established procedures for handling breakdowns. 


  • Follow safe working practices and ensure the backroom area is in compliance with OHSA regulations, and communicate any safety concerns to the Wellness Manager immediately.


  • Complete all other duties as assigned by the Wellness Buyers and Center Store Manager.

Co-op Performance Standards

Customer Service


  • Demonstrate excellent customer skills, both internally and externally; Follow the 10-4 service rule.


  • Make yourself available to customers; greet each customer promptly with a smile.


  • Handle customer complaints and questions courteously.     


  • Coordinate with all supervisors and leads to address customer concerns, questions or thoughts. i.e., refunds, oops coupons, angry customers, broken machinery etc.


  • Help customers place special orders. 


  • Accurately and completely record special orders and ensure the forms are delivered for processing.


  • Offer samples, suggestions and information about products.

 

Communication


  • Communicate directly and professionally, following the Moscow Food Co-op Coworker Conduct Commitment.


  • Stay up to date on information in department log books.


  • Answer and route phone calls according to Moscow Food Co-op procedures.


  • Keep a working phone and personal email address for necessary communication from the Co-op.


  • Report customer suggestions, comments, and complaints to the MOD or Department Manager.

Other Duties


  • Work cooperatively with others in the department and throughout store

  • Maintain excellent attendance and punctuality.

  • Take breaks according to department and store policy.

  • Requests time-off according to department and store policy, arranges subs for scheduled shifts and subs when needed.

  • Follow the direction of the Manager on Duty (MOD).

  • Maintain accurate use of the time system, substitute for other staff as needed

  • Ensure a safe working environment for all staff and customers.

  • Assist with training new staff when appropriate

  • Carry out established opening and closing procedures.

  • Complete Co-op-wide trainings as required.

  • Attend all inventories, dept. meetings, and all-staff meetings.

  • Participate in department and store-wide initiatives such as Open Book Management and others as they occur.

Required


  • Commitment to the mission and goals of the Moscow Food Co-op.

  • High school diploma or equivalent; retail and customer service experience preferred

  • Familiarity with natural products including body care items, herbs, vitamins, supplements, etc, as well as merchandise that includes high quality cookware, Fair Trade products, environmentally friendly housewares, etc. preferred

  • Motivated, energetic, outgoing, self-directed, positive, adaptable team player.

  • Reliable, dependable, organized and able to handle multiple demands.

  • Excellent communication and problem solving skills.

  • Basic math and computer skills.

  • Regular, predictable attendance; Flexible schedule; willing to work some evenings and weekends.

  • Willingness and ability to meet the changing requirements of the job.

Physical Requirements


  • Remain in a stationary standing or sitting position for long periods of time.

  • Must be able to move about the store and surrounding co-op properties.

  • Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; Push/pull hand cart, racks up to 200 pounds.

  • Frequent kneeling, stooping, squatting, bending, reaching (overhead/front/side/back).

  • Ability to tolerate varying temperatures.

  • Ability to stand for long periods and to work in close quarters with other people.
