Who we are looking for

Global Credit Finance (GCF) is the lending division of State Street. Our mandate is to attract, serve, and retain State Street's clients through the extension of credit, while optimizing the profitability of a portfolio of loans constructed within balance sheet and risk appetite constraints. The VP, Debt Capital Markets- Alternatives within GCF will focus on expanding current alternative assets lending products, which will include, but not be limited to commercial real estate and fund finance structures. This candidate should have capital markets work experience within a financial organization and possess strong verbal and written communication skills for interactions within GCF as well as with internal and external stakeholders, including global business partners and regulators.

The division you will be joining, GCF, plays an important role in the overall success of the organization, generating some of the highest margins and return-on-capital within STT via its lending products. Across the globe, institutional investors rely on us for financing, and to help them manage risk, respond to challenges, and ultimately drive performance and profitability. To make that happen we need to utilize our balance sheet in the most efficient manner possible and a candidate with strong structuring skills, understanding of regulatory capital rules, and in-depth commercial real estate underwriting, will help us grow our margins in this product and potentially others. Private equity lending is a high growth product for the bank, and this person will work strategically across various teams within GCF to define and accomplish our goals. You will help us innovate and execute day-to-day deliverables.

You will be responsible for:


  • Leading the expansion of credit offerings to alternative asset investor clients, with an initial product focus on the commercial real estate industry.

  • Working collaboratively across the operations, legal, compliance, credit, and sales teams for the commercial real estate and fund finance lending platforms to grow State Street's alternative assets lending portfolio.

  • Executing on the origination, underwriting, structuring, and closing of loans for the commercial real estate and fund finance portfolios based on credit product guidelines.

  • Lead in the presentation and defense of credit recommendations for multiple credit products.

  • Work closely with team to continue to develop alternatives investments industry knowledge, lending to funds, as well as underwriting and portfolio management skills.

  • Interfacing with STT clients and our banking coverage contacts as well as extensive coordination with our private equity lending team.

Education & Preferred Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience in credit markets / private equity / commercial real estate investing.

  • Degree in business, economics, finance or liberal arts; MBA or CFA a plus but not required.

  • Demonstrated experience working in an environment managing multiple, concurrent deliverables with shifting priorities, demands, and timelines.

  • Results oriented ownership mentality, and desire to work within a collaborative, team-driven environment.

  • Strong communication skills. Candidate must be comfortable explaining results to both technical and non-technical audiences.
