CLASSIFICATION: MCL Senior Plant Operations & Maintenance Field Engineer

GRADE: Exempt; Regular, Full-Time

LOCATION: McKinley Climatic Laboratory, Eglin AFB, FL – On Site

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essential job functions include Operate and maintain refrigeration equipment, boilers, and numerous pieces of climatic simulation to include operate and maintain the three large refrigeration units and their associated equipment. Operate and maintain the equipment that controls the temperature and humidity to all of the test chambers. Operate the steam generation and distribution system. Operate and maintain the Air Make-Up (AMU) #1 and #2 regeneration systems that precool all four fluids in both systems. Operate and maintain all HVAC systems in the MCL used to condition all office and many work areas. Troubleshoot and resolve problems in unique, one-of-a-kind, industrial scale plant systems. Operate and maintain the HVAC systems used for cooling and heating the numerous test booths. Operate and maintain all equipment listed in above paragraphs.

GENERAL DUTIES: Provide technical oversight of MCL Plant Operations and Maintenance Refrigeration team. Provide after-hours facility access control for the entire MCL complex. Maintain all AMU equipment for both systems. Understand a large plant at a depth to oversee complex operation and maintenance procedures. Works independently in nearly all cases with rare need to consult with higher level expertise on problems of exceptional difficulty. Accomplish work at a level of difficulty often associated with degreed engineers. Provides senior level expertise to resolve moderately to very challenging problems in the area of responsibility.

Job Requirements:

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Must have EPA Section 608 Universal technician certification (for servicing all types of equipment and to buy and handle refrigerant larger than 20 pounds) within one year of hire date. Demonstrated knowledge and experience of lean manufacturing. Demonstrated experience with industrial maintenance planning and work execution. Ability to develop and lead high performance maintenance teams.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: This position requires a Secret security clearance. Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance. Observes company Quality, Safety, Environmental, Security and Administrative policies; supports Process Improvement.

OTHER DUTIES: Additional duties may be assigned to support contract/mission support requirements in job-related areas.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Works in temperature extremes from -65 to 130 degrees Fahrenheit. Works at heights up to 70 feet in elevation from ladders or high reach equipment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Lifts loads as heavy as 75 pounds.
