LOCATION: Guided Weapons Evaluation Facility (GWEF), Eglin AFB, FL – On Site

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Install, operate, maintain RF amplifiers, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, RF probes, frequency counters, RF attenuators and modulators, RF cabling, PCs and computer interfaces to simulation equipment, rate tables, flight motion simulators, LASER systems, high sensitivity radiometers and IR calibration equipment, spectral radiometer and National Institute of Standards and Testing (NIST)-traceable IR sources (high temperature and differential types). Support facility engineers and analysts in developing test capabilities. Prepare and verify test items for operation and troubleshoot failed test items using established procedures or by developing new procedures when existing methods are insufficient. Set up test equipment, configure test areas for simulation, prepare equipment and perform equipment diagnostics, operate IR/RF equipment, collect data during testing and process data collected. Align and calibrate RF, LASER, IR and visible optical systems. Support the preparation of technical reports and correspondence. Design, fabricate, install, operate, and maintain GWEF EO, IR, and RF HITL simulation equipment. Provide innovative designs where existing methods are insufficient. Troubleshoot complex simulator systems down to the lowest component level. Document all system configurations and modifications. Provide technical guidance for lower grade field engineers and technicians. Analyze system functions and design interface applications when little or no supporting documentation is available. Develop and maintain fiber optic networks and GPS-based time synchronization networks.

GENERAL DUTIES: Provide senior level expertise to resolve moderately to very challenging problems in the area of responsibility. Work independently in nearly all cases with rare need to consult with principal level expertise on problem of exceptional difficulty. Support the development, operation, and maintenance of complex electronic equipment utilized by GWEF HITL processes for guided munitions and infrared (IR) countermeasures (IRCM) simulations, including electro-optical (EO), IR (IR), LASER, RF and GPS technologies. These systems include foreign and domestic surface-to-air, air-to-air, and air-to-surface weapons sensors, GWEF simulation hardware, and countermeasure systems.

Job Requirements:

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Associates Degree or training certificates in electronics or engineering from trade schools, colleges, military, etc. Must have a minimum of ten years’ experience in development, operation and maintenance of complex electronic equipment utilized by GWEF HITL processes for guided munitions and IRCM simulations, including EO, IR, LASER, RF and GPS technologies. Must be proficient in the design and modification of optical and electronic interfaces on domestic and foreign IR guidance units. Ten years of direct experience as an RF technician utilizing complex electronic equipment may substitute.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: This position requires a Top-Secret security clearance. Candidates may have a Secret clearance that has been adjudicated within the last 5 years. Must meet requirements to operate in enhanced security environments.

OTHER DUTIES: Additional duties may be assigned to support contract/mission support requirements in job-related areas.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work activities are normally performed in an environmentally controlled area.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: This position will be subject to substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Must be able to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; viewing a computer terminal; and requires very little lifting or moving of heavy objects or materials and require very little lifting or moving of heavy objects or materials.
