Job Summary:

The Controller will oversee the daily operations of the accounting department, ensure accurate financial reporting, and maintain control systems to report accurate financial results. This role requires a detail-oriented, reliable professional who is capable of managing complex accounting activities and providing leadership to the accounting team.

Essential Functions / Responsibilities:

• Manage all accounting staff and operations including billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, cost and project accounting, inventory accounting, payroll and revenue recognition.


• Coordinate and direct the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts, and report variances.


• Prepare and publish timely monthly financial statements and work in process.


• Coordinate the preparation of regulatory reporting.


• Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting.


• Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.


• Manage and comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.


• Manage the month-end and year-end close process.


• Liaise with external auditors to ensure appropriate monitoring of company finances is maintained.


• Conduct internal audits to ensure compliance with finance and accounting regulations and standards.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA preferred.


• Minimum of 5 years of accounting and finance experience.


• Experience in the construction or heavy civil engineering industry is highly preferred.


• Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures.


• Experience with accounting software and databases; Vista / Trimble products preferred.


• Strong leadership, communication, and analytical skills.
