Job Description:

Zingerman's Bakehouse is hiring a Cake Decorator. This is a full-time position on our team creating handcrafted cakes, cupcakes, and cookies to be enjoyed on occasions of all types and sizes.

What does the job pay?
The starting pay is $17.00 per hour. Starting pay is negotiable with demonstrated experience.

Who are we?
We are a wholesale bakery, retail shop, and baking school for home bakers. We sell to specialty food stores, cafés and restaurants in southeastern Michigan as well as selling to Zingerman's Mail Order, who ships our baked goods everywhere in the United States. We are dedicated bakers and food lovers committed to making and selling the best breads, pastries and cakes we can imagine. We are real artisan bakers, meaning we use traditional methods and flavorful ingredients to make our food.

What are the requirements and skills needed for this job?
Availability:

8 hour shifts; typical start times between 5 am-8 am with occasional optional later shifts
Available to work up to 40 hours per week; occasional overtime may be requested
Weekend availability required

Performance Expectations - Essential Functions:

Assemble and ice undecorated cakes
Decorate cakes; piping, and inscribing
Create fondant decorations
Decorate and package cookies
Package cakes and cake slices
Prepare customer orders for delivery
Label products
Sort orders by product
Learn to deliver custom cakes; includes loading/unloading, transporting, and on-site set-up
Maintain all food safety and sanitation guidelines
Able to work well on a team and contribute in a group setting
Able to provide customer service (internally and externally) as taught in our required Art of Selling Great Service class (things like smiling, saying hello, going direct with conflict, providing excellent service, etc.)
Able to receive constructive feedback both in the moment informally and through our formal process

Physical Requirements:

Standing, lifting, bending for the duration of an 8-hour shift in the space provided
Able to manage differing levels of noise, without the use of headphones (we don't wear anything over our ears for safety purposes)
Able to lift up to 50 pounds
Repetitive motion
Fine manipulation of fingers and hands
