JOB SUMMARY
The Commuter Life Graduate Assistant is a part time (27 hours/week), 11 month, live-in staff position responsible to provide support for overall administration and programmatic aspects for commuter students. The GA must be passionate about creating a safe, welcoming environment in which commuter student learners feel supported, encouraged, valued and can find a sense of belonging at SNU. The GA provides a presence in the Lounge space, provides consistent communication and facilitates assessment of needs, satisfaction and outcomes, providing recommendations for on and off-campus services and resources for commuter students; to include marketing and publication materials. By nature of this position, the Graduate Assistant must serve as a Christian role model and uphold the SNU mission of Character, Culture, and Christ. The Graduate Assistant provides support for all Residence Life functions in an effort to provide exposure and experience to different aspects of the role and different leadership style.
Essential Functions:
Gain an understanding of commuter students and their needs by researching data-proven best practices for commuter student success
Develop an understanding of how services and support offered for commuter students tie into divisional and institutional goals
Work closely with Commuter Connectors (student leaders), as needed
Work with the Commuter Connectors to maintain fiscal responsibility of events planned to promote affinity and belonging
Provide professional staff presence in Chapman Apartments
Actively promote and develop community among commuter students that values holistic learning
Work with the Dean of Students on specialized projects
Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree.
Ability to integrate Christian faith with student development theories and practice.
Enrolled in a Master's Program at Southern Nazarene University.
Willingness to live on campus in Chapman Apartments

Receives supervision and work assignments from a designated supervisor, although other team members in the unit may provide work direction.

Qualifying graduate assistants are eligible for a waiver of up to the total number of hours required for the graduate program.
