Job Description:

New England Biolabs (NEB) is inviting applications for a Development Scientist position within the Applications and Product Development Department. The successful candidate will work both independently and in collaboration with other groups on key strategic projects that align with the scientific interests of the company. This position offers opportunities to develop novel reagents and workflow solutions, engage with academic and diagnostic customers, attend scientific conferences and learn from technically-and commercially-focused colleagues across the company. Title level will be determined based on candidate experience.

Primary Responsibilities:


  • Develop and characterize novel solutions to support nucleic acid-based technologies and workflows


  • Work with department leadership to establish and prioritize projects


  • Collaborate with colleagues across the company (research, production, marketing, etc.) to conduct proof of principle experiments, de-risk projects, and launch products relevant to current and cutting-edge workflows


  • Understand benefits and risks of possible solutions to enable relevant go/no go decisions


  • Share technical expertise relevant to training/background beyond immediate projects


  • Actively engage with customers to understand and address needs or concerns


  • Create content for technical and marketing materials


  • Present findings to internal and external customers/collaborators


Required Qualifications and Experience:


  • Ph.D. in Biochemistry or related field with a sophisticated understanding of molecular biology and current challenges/limitations


  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across multiple teams as needed


  • Strong quantitative reasoning and data analysis skills


  • Experience designing/developing novel assays


  • Excellent interpersonal skills


  • Effective verbal and written communication


  • Customer support experience and mindset


  • Scientific enthusiasm and integrity


  • An ability to balance multiple projects, learn new skills and excel in a team environment
