Roman and Williams Buildings and Interiors, founded by Robin Standefer and Stephen Alesch in 2002, is known for creating memorable spaces and enduring objects. In December 2017, they opened Roman and Williams Guild, a dynamic retail venture in the heart of Soho, New York.
The Guild is seeking a dedicated and experienced Assistant Merchant to provide operational support and assist the Merchandising Team with the procurement of merchandise. This role will report directly to the Senior Merchant and will be responsible for day-to-day tasks, project-based responsibilities, and contribute to the overall efforts of the Merchandising team. The Assistant Merchant will also provide support with the maintenance of Inventory Systems, SKU setup, and data and will support the Senior Merchant with data analysis.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: • Support the Merchandising Team with product selection, assortment, and item set up in all retail and web systems. • Enter and manage all initial Purchase Orders into all systems and Merchandising Calendars. • Support the Merchandising Manager with Artist and Vendor communications to build long-term relationships and partnerships. • Collaborate with Senior Merchant in analyzing data and sales trends to develop strategies for Visual Merchandising, Marketing, and Product Training initiatives that align with our brand standards. • Gather all master data on new items for item set up across all systems, including pricing, dimensions, materials, and care instructions. • Assist Senior Merchant with inventory monitoring to support store replenishment and reorders. • Assist with Store Transfers and inventory movements to and from the Warehouse. • Assist Lead Merchants with all shoot-related and product meeting logistics, including the pulling of samples as needed for product meetings and presentation preparation.
ROLE REQUIREMENTS: • 1-2 years of experience in a Retail Merchandising role, preferably within Home Goods or an adjacent Luxury Brand. • High level of proficiency in retail math and excel. • Bachelor's degree strongly preferred. • An interest and passion for Art and Design and knowledge of current trends. • Experience with Visual Merchandising a plus. • Team player who can also work independently. • Self-motivated problem-solver with strong analytical skills. • Proficient knowledge of Shopify systems required, 2 years. • Computer proficiency with MS Office; Outlook, Excel, Word, and Adobe Suite; InDesign • Strong visual presentation skills and attention to detail. • Excellent communication skills - verbal and written.
