Job Description:

Job Title: Utility Laborer Street and Underground Utilities Division Department:Bridge and Concrete, Street and Underground Utilities, Traffic Signals Reports To: Foreman FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Category: Field Job Location: San Antonio, TX Pay Range: $16 to $20 per hour. Summary: Under the direction of the Foreman, the Utility Laborer performs a support role to the crew’s other skilled workers. Utility Laborers will work in any division of the company – concrete, underground utilities, street and/or signals. They may operate a variety of equipment including hand and power tools, air hammers, earth tampers, small mechanical hoists, the bobcat or roller/compactor. The Utility Laborer cleans and prepares the job sites, digs trenches, places shoring to support the sides of excavations, cleans up rubble/debris and performs a variety of other labor related tasks. The Utility Laborer has the ability to work without close direction and may work as a lead man assisting the Foreman. Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions:Assists the Foreman in completing day to day tasksDigs, spreads, and levels concrete, dirt, and gravel, using hand tools.Lifts, carries, and holds materials, tools, and supplies.Signals operators on machinery.Cleans tools, equipment, materials, and work areas.Performs variety of routine, non-machine tasks, such as removing forms from set concrete.Spreads base material for sub grade or preparation for concrete pour.Pour and help finish concrete.Responsible for tying steel/rebarPositions, aligns and joins pipe sections. May assist in the installation of pipe.Controls traffic passing near the work zone(s).Assist with any job duties involved in the construction and demolition of a job-site.Assists with blue tops/layoutWears appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times while on the job-site (i.e. vest, earplugs, glasses, hard hat, etc.)Other duties as assignedSkills/Qualifications:2+ years of experience within the construction industryDemonstrates a high level of strength and endurance, as the position is physically demandingDemonstrates accuracy and thoroughness in the quality of the workDemonstrates the ability to complete the work in a timely mannerDemonstrates good eye-hand coordination, balance and depth perceptionDemonstrates effective written and oral communication skills.Demonstrates a sense of urgency in responding to all situations.Demonstrates the ability to work in a number of diverse locations, as work locations change regularly, and ability to work varying schedules. Overtime and weekend work are required, as necessary.Demonstrates ability to collaborate and work effectively as a team. Demonstrates responsibility in reporting to work on a consistent and timely basis.Physical Requirements:The Utility Laborer while performing the essential functions of this job is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, reach with hands and arms, lift above their head, and talk or hear. The Utility Laborer is also required to kneel, crouch or stoop, climb ladders, bend at the waist, squat and crawl in tight or confined spaces to perform the essential functions of the job. The Utility Laborer will occasionally lift, move or push up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and color vision. Ascending or descending stairs is required, and movement of uneven terrain is frequently required to carry out essential duties. The Utility Laborer will spend their time on the physical job-site. This position is exposed to high temperatures, cool/cold temperatures and loud noises. Work in the construction area poses significantly greater risk due to moving construction equipment and active construction zones with trip and fall hazards.
