Project Buyer

The Project Buyer is responsible for the project material planning, placing, and managing purchase orders for projects. This position needs to attend project meetings, understand the Engineer to Order (ETO) process, project timelines and assembly routings. With electronic purchasing request (EPR) messages and the project execution information, the project buyer shall work with the Engineering team to set the right resources plan the material arrival dates, and manage the purchase orders (POs) accordingly.

This position monitors the material planning process and purchasing process to assist multiple departments in providing timely and accurate product deliveries. The Buyer is also responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with suppliers to ensure the continuous flow of materials for the production process.

While some aspects of the position are transactional, we are looking for a strategic thinker who can reshape this role within the company and find new ways to improve our level of performance as viewed by the customer.

The requirements for this position are as follows:

EDUCATION:

Associates degree in Business, Operations Management, or Supply Chain or equivalent required, Bachelor's degree preferred. CPIM or CSCP certification a plus. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and Outlook required.

EXPERIENCE:

3-5 years of experience in a supply chain role purchasing, planning, and/or project scheduling is required. Experience in a machine manufacturing setting is preferred. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills. Experience with JD Edwards (JDE) is highly preferred. Must have strong problem solving and analytical skills.

SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE:
  • An individual with working knowledge of manufacturing procedures and processes. Experience with machine tool manufacturing/project are preferred.
  • Understand material requirements planning (MRP) logic, utilize timelines, quantity requirements, and shipping methods to maintain efficient ordering procedures.
  • Experience with inventory planning, general purchasing practices, contract negotiations and supplier management.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and manage multiple projects.
  • An individual that has excellent interpersonal, organizational, and customer service skills, with a strong attention to detail.
  • Has excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines

LOCATION:

Elgin, IL

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Review part requirements generated by MRP or Kanban triggers and utilize enterprise resource planning (ERP) system to evaluate component material requirements for internal manufacturing consumption as well as external customer orders.
  • Work with Engineering to secure appropriate resources and price, work directly with vendors to place purchase orders, monitor any updates or adjustments to the orders as needed.
  • Assist with negotiating and managing pricing agreements and payment terms with vendors.
  • Manage and resolve any purchase order issues that arise, document the necessary information.
  • Generate reports via the ERP system that will be used for improving processes and procedures within the department.
  • Assist the department manager in managing overall supply chain operations, including material purchasing/planning, inventory management, vendor selection, and vendor relations.
  • Attend project team meetings, to review material status against schedule, inventory strategy, supply plan, and resource implications.
  • Communicate proactively with project team and suppliers to resolve issues that may impact the ability to meet shipping schedules.
  • Generate required reporting to monitor the purchasing process.
  • Adapt to changes in an evolving environment.
  • Assist with special projects as requested.

Travel to be expected for this position will be up to 15%.
