Job Description:

This position is for an Operations Controller of an area containing various hauling companies, transfer stations and/or landfills in various locations within Florida. The incumbent will act in the role of a financial business partner with the General Managers and Regional Vice President, performing complex business analysis, evaluating detailed pro-forma's, assisting with bid creation/submittals, analyzing contracts and productivity optimization, managing acquisition/divesture due diligence and the integration or disposal process, responsible for completion of region annual budgets and quarterly forecasts. Primary duty is to support the Regional Vice President and location (branch) Managers by providing essential information and analysis that allows the Managers to make good business decisions that match up with corporate goals and objectives.



Duties:



  • Review and manage accounts receivable, providing guidance holding accountable management staff for the collection activities. Review and suggest bad debt adjustments.

  • Act as liaison between the field operations and corporate support managers

  • Review franchise agreements and confirm the GFL is following process. Periodic review of amounts paid versus accrued. Prepare workpapers for the franchise fee external audits.

  • Analyze financial results of each business unit and the region as a whole.

  • Analyze statistical results of each business unit and the region as a whole, ensuring KPI's are reported accurately, timely, and consistently.

  • Provide financial variance analysis

  • Mentor, train, develop general managers on financial reporting and analysis responsibilities.

  • Perform GL account reconciliation reviews to ensure accuracy of financial results

  • Work closely with on-site operations teams to be the expert in financial reporting including monthly close, audit reporting, inventory management

  • Oversee the region's annual budgeting process - ensure timelines are met, reviews are performed, numbers are complete, and goals/objectives are communicated/understood

  • Support and participate in all new business activity, either via acquisition or organic growth - will involve proforma generation, due diligence, transition support, and integration.

  • Responsible for the training and development of field personnel performing the monthly/quarterly forecasting for all sites

  • Main point of contact for all capital investments

  • Seek process (continuous) improvement throughout the region (recommend, implement, monitor, maintain, measure, adjust)

  • Advise, develop, and assist in the design, implementation, and measurement of results of correction action plans or new opportunities.

  • Collaborate with all departments across the organization to support corporate initiatives and projects, including annual goals




Work Location:





  • Position is based in our Jacksonville, FL office.

  • Position requires occasional overnight travel to other GFL locations and offsite meetings.




Qualifications:





  • Accounting/Business BA or BS Degree from a four (4) year college or university (minimum)

  • 10 or more years of progressively responsible experience in accounting or finance.

  • Experience in the waste industry is preferred but not required.

  • Proven leadership abilities.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Proven history of successful performance operating in a dynamic/high growth environment.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, including ability to effectively communicate financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.

  • Results oriented with ability to successfully lead projects, set priorities, and consistently meet deadlines.

  • Proficiency in Office applications, particularly Microsoft Excel
