Job Description:

As a Skills Trainer, you'll work with individuals who experience intellectual/developmental disabilities in learning or improving skills that are vital to employment. You'll collaborate with job developers to provide pre-employment activities, such as developing relationships with businesses for work experience, informational interviews/tours, and volunteer opportunities. You'll provide 1:1 coaching in community work experiences, teaches skill building classes, and partner with clients to determine goals and skills that need to be developed.



Essential Duties



Participant Support

  • Coach participants in community work experiences
  • Work with participants to help them build interview and employment skills.
  • Problem-solve interpersonal issues and poor work behaviors.
  • Assist participants in learning tasks as independently as possible and work cooperatively with each person's vocational team to create plans and/or obtain tools that would improve their skills and abilities.
  • Work with participants to complete pre-employment paperwork and online applications.

Program and Community Support

  • Arrive to work on time and with the tools/material necessary for the job.
  • Efficiently manage time and tasks independently for maximum productivity.
  • Work with the employment team and supervisor to create and implement task analysis forms, job aids, and other learning tools to assist in successful skill building of participant.
  • Complete monthly progress notes for each participant.
  • Assist Job Developer as necessary and required.
  • Maintain progress notes, time sheets, tracking forms, and other required documentation.
  • Ensure each participant's personal and medical information is always up to date in their client file.
  • Perform on the job ADL (activities of daily living) supports when needed. This can include toileting assistance among other personal support assistance.
  • Maintain clear communication with community supervisor and others as part of the ISP team.

Additional Duties

  • Attend required trainings and ISP meetings.
  • Relate any change and/or concerns to your supervisor.
  • Perform other tasks as required by your supervisor.



Qualifications




  • One to three years' experience working with persons with developmental disabilities in an employment setting preferred.
  • Ability to cooperate and function in a changing environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with participants, staff, employers, and other parties in written and spoken English.
  • Bilingual proficiency (verbal and written) preferred.
  • Ability to meet background check and agency driving requirements.
