A Designer I (Fiber) will perform entry level design of overhead and underground communication systems in support of the PRB process. This work includes the processing of field survey data, preparation of drawings and sketches, determination of material and engineering hour requirements, and a high level of problem solving.
Essential Functions:
Prepares drawings and sketches in Visio, AutoCAD, or Microstation.
Determines material and engineering hour requirements
Coordinates on-going engineering communication and participation in the site implementation walk-downs.
Prepares design packages by developing actual design requirements.
Provides onsite technical design support to field construction during design package implementation.
Assist in the gathering of information from field survey data and verify accuracy of maps and record drawings.
Utilize company's project management system to track and update design activities.
Attend regular training sessions to maintain proficiency in design work.
Promote a safe work environment using BHI Energy's Gold Standard
Perform other duties that may be assigned.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time; talk or hear; perform fine motor, hand and finger skills in the use of a keyboard, telephone, or writing. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and reach with arms and/or hands. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. The employee will spend their time in an office environment as well as an industrial environment observing employees, their progress with assigned work, and interfacing with both employees and client employees with a moderate to high noise level. The employee is required to don the appropriate personal protective equipment while traversing an industrial environment.
Required Education and Experience:
An ideal candidate will have a Bachelor/Associate Degree in Drafting, Engineering, Technology, or 4 years related experience in design and drafting. Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Mircrostation and/or GIS systems. Demonstrate good oral and written communication skills. Ability to interface with clients in connection with project design responsibilities. Demonstrate capability to utilize Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain it throughout the duration of employment. Must be able to work for extended periods of time on a computer. Proven ability to demonstrate a high level of ethical behavior, integrity and trust. Knowledge of BHI Energy processes and procedures and utilization of developed tools to most effectively manage work is essential. Must actively demonstrate the BHI company values and support the BHI Ethics and Standards. Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a working knowledge of BHI and client technical manuals and procedures; to pass BHI and client specific training and qualifications as required; subject to personnel call out as required in support of nuclear station emergent work requirements; to work overtime, to include shift work, weekends, and holidays as needed; and be able to pass all background and screening requirements for the position, to include drug and/or alcohol screening.
Overview:
Position based out of West Palm Beach, Florida. Remote opportunities available after training completion.
Full-time with benefits offering 40 hours per week. Progression to Senior and Lead Design positions available.
There will be no Per Diem allowance provided for this position.
